Starvation, damage, and comas

All right, an odd little hypothetical that I noticed when dealing with some starved NPCs:

Meet Bob. Bob has 15 HP normally, but has been without food for several days, and thus has 4 non-lethal damage (in addition to being fatigued). This NL damaged cannot be healed until Bob finds food.

Bob comes across a bandit who hits him with a nasty critical, hitting for 14 damage and dropping Bob to 1 HP. Bob falls unconscious--his NL damage is higher than his total HP--but he is not dead, or even dying. The bandit takes Bob's stuff and leaves him for dead.

What happens now? Bob does not lose HP, because he does not have negative HP. His NL damage does not heal. The questions are:

Does Bob heal normally? That is, does unconsciousness count as rest for the purposes of regaining HP? And if so, does it count as complete bed rest?

If Bob does not heal normally, does he simply waste away? He will effectively lay there in a coma, unable to feed himself, until starvation causes death--for which, of course, there are no rules.

Now, a parallel hypothetical. That nasty critical does 16 points of damage, dropping Bob to -1 HP. Miraculously, Bob stabilizes in two rounds, then makes his 10% roll to become conscious two hours later. But... the NL damage indicates that he should not become conscious; he is at -5 HP with 4 points of NL damage.

Does Bob have a chance to begin recovering HP naturally, even though he's not conscious?
