A good read from the Dread GazeboMy Fellow Gamers, Stay Classy

Also this from Monte Cook from Twitter "9 out of 10 times when I see a comment about how someone doesn't like something they heard about the new D&D, that thing isn't true"

Remember you have a voice in the up coming game... make it heard!!!!

I thought 'Stay Classy' was going to be a pun on the importance of classes in D&D.

Yeah, me too. On the other hand, I have to point out that because the game is in Pre-Alpha now IS the best time to complain about things you must or must not have. Waiting until release day is too late and waiting for open playtesting is too late for major stuff.

BTW, if you want to make your voice heard, it might have more chance on the Wizards forums than here. I sent Monte a Facebook message and he pretty much told me that where the designers are paying attention is on the Wizard's forums.

An open playtest is a great time for constructive criticism. To the extent that the criticism turns into demands, it probably isn't constructive--especially demands about particular designs or means.

Among other problems, such demands often don't communicate what a person actually wants very much. They want a particular thing to be smooth, or be reasonably possible, or be easy, or have a certain feel, etc. The demand is just the means that they think is the best way to get that--but it is easy to be wrong about the best means to that end, especially with limited insight into the rest of the design.

Really? I've stuck to the Enworld forum because I thought the most provoking intelligent conversation is here, not on the WoTC forum. Well, I can't say I have any inclination to volunteer my time and effort to go over to the other forum and rehash all my opinions over there, simply because they can't be bothered to listen in on here.

Well, given that they're releasing almost nothing but ad copy, and hoping people will draw positive conclusions from positive ad copy, it isn't surprising that people's conclusions aren't true. I'd bet that 9 out of 10 positive statements about 5e aren't true at this point, just like 9 out of 10 negative statements. No one KNOWS anything. We just have inferences drawn from insinuations.

The problem with trying to have a conversation on the WotC forums is a combination of over-reactive knee-jerk moderation that often shuts down conversations that are critical of the company (in other words, legitimate feedback) combined with impolite posters who love their megalong meaningless crap sigs.

I don't hang out there at all anymore, not that I ever did a whole bunch. I don't think the designers sticking to in-house fora is a good way to get wide feedback on things.

EDIT: In all fairness, since I'm not there much, it could be much better nowadays.

Not immediately apparent if that is meant as a rebuke or to assuage peoples feelings. If it is the former, it would be in poor taste, as it would be hypocritical to rebuke people for getting the facts wrong when you are the gatekeeper of the facts.

( I mention it particularly because I am reminded of something that was said in our Canadian House of Commons that had exactly that sort of form, so it is on my mind. )
