Stephen Colbert on Gygax

Colbert told Leno or Letterman how he attended the early Gen Cons and met Len Lakofka among other luminaries of the early D&D years. He's a legit gamer-nerd.

I am befuddled at how this could possibly be seen as a left wing/right wing issue.

Partisans will find any reason to conflate any topic into a left-wing/right-wing issue.

Colbert, if anything, is very pro-D&D. If he gave the audience a look, it was probably him just acknowledging 'yeah, I'm a nerd, so what' sort of thing. Don't read too much into it.

Colbert has mentioned DnD before so he wasn't being a jerk. He did write a bit for the 30th anniversary DnD coffee table book, if I recall correctly.
He did, along with Wil Wheaton, Vin Diesel and Ed Robertson among many others. (If you don't know who that third one is, you're no friend of mine. ;p)

Folks, let's not bring politics into this discussion. Gary's passing has us all a little sensitive when it comes to how news of his death is handled, and we all need to remember to not read too much into the reactions of those to whom he wasn't as seminal a figure as he may have been to us.

I knew about Wil and Vin, didn't know about Ed.

I'll have to ask him about it next time I see him on tour. :) Last time I got to meet him, we discussed his appearances on VH1.

Why didn't you just use your psionics mastery and read his mind? :p
