Damon White reports: "Hasbro and Steve Jackson games have announced the finalization of an agreement to sell the licensing rights of official D&D products to Steve Jackson games.
"We are very excited for this opportunity. D&D has always been the root of all role playing games, and we are confident that we will able to bring a production quality to our D&D products that would rival or even surpass the quality of our GURPS products."
According to Ross Jepson at Steve Jackson Games, the agreement has been hammered out over a half year.
"Hasbro didn't want to let this license go, but we made an offer they couldn't ignore. In the end, we met in the middle."
"D&D will continue to be the edgy and heroic fantasy game you grew up with", says Steve Jackson, "we are very commited to keeping the same feel that you know, and expanding the richness of D&D history."
