Stink in Ship's Towers

Kaodi said:
" Why don't you go to our rooms for the moment, Ulmapoap, while we try and figure out how to get ya out of here?"
"Nono, the liquid will lose its smell after an hour or so, and I can't use it again for several hours. I'll be better off somewhere truly out of sight... but I still want to be close here..." With that, Ulmoapop slithers back under the bed.

"It sounds like everybody wants to stay. I'm game if you guys are...but I think we should set up on the bar, not just this room. Two people in here, one out in the bar: that way if he comes in the front, he doesn't see an empty place and get suspicious."

" So, uhhh... who were you thinking for to take the bar? " Kathan asks, but he has a pretty good idea what the answer is going to be.

Kathan grins. " Nah. I'd be a pretty pathetic changeling if I backed down from this kind of challenge. My only real concern is that I'll have to take off my armour, but I've had to do that plenty of times before, " he says.

Even as he speaks, Kathan's features begin to shift and change to match those of the tavern keeper. In a moment, he is a perfect likeness.

" Give me a few moments and I will return, " he says, and he goes off to get changed. When he returns, he's down to just his clothes, and everything else except for his weapons has been shoved into his pack, which is bulging.

Slipping one dagger back into his boot, and one into his belt, Veyk hefts his morningstar. " I believe I will slip this one under the counter, " he says, " I would not want to be bereft should it come to blows, and I imagine it will. "

After about an hour, the stench loses its power. About another hour later, the barkeep returns. Seeing his split image, he raises an eyebrow. "That supposed to be funny? I'm not laughing. Whoever you are, go back to your room. That creature made the Crab the talk of Ship's Towers, apparently."

Veyk frowns slightly, and he says, " This is not some run of the mill smuggling operation. The Eel is smuggling living creatures, and I do not believe that is a business you wish to be involved in. " He pauses a moment to fix the bartender with a cold stare. " It would be for the best if you told us everything you know about the Eel and his whereabouts. Now. "

"Listen, Mirror-Guy, once more, and listen this time - I don't care what his business is, I don't care what your business is, as long as my business doesn't suffer from it. This is Ship's Towers, for Syberis' sake! What people do you think are running around here? In one of the worst slums of Sharn, right next to a red-light district? Most Watch members that are here are corrupt, you know. The best I can do is to raise my prices so that the poorest don't come here. And keep good ties with the most influential, if you get my drift.
Take my advice - no one here will care that this Eel fellow smuggles some creature straight from Khyber. And don't come with a slavery argument. There are many people who feel that the forged don't deserve to be freed from it, and that will go doubly for that stench-spewer. Here in Ship's Towers, it'll be lucky if it becomes a circus attraction.
And just in case you didn't get what I said - I have absolutely no idea where that Eel fellow is, or what he is up to, and even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you.
"

Kenn sits quietly inside a closet, doing his best to hide and look like a pile of old clothes.
After an hour, he sits in a corner, trying to look like a pile of old clothes.
After an hour of that, he stands in the corner and looks like an errant shadow.
After an hour of that, he suspects the Eel may not be coming back.
After another hour of that, he decides he suspects it may be time for a new plan.

"I think we'd better try catching him at the Angeline after all."
