Story Hour?

I don't know Heap, that whole squidgy thing sounds kind of personal but if it means you're going to write, it's all good with me. :)

Thanks for taking it up again. I look forward to your next update.

Well here come to find out that squidgy feeling was words waiting to get out.

Wrote up a pt.6 ...

Glad people are enjoying. I actually have another SH I can do after this one, based on a short PBP game I did online.

Coming Soon to a Story Hour Near You:

"University Blues: Pickman's Motel"

That medallions SH is quite possibly one of the best stories I've read in a long time. I would LOVE to have a group that down to earth to create and play a game like that.

Unfortunately, all my players want to play spec-ops or theif/gangsters....

(this is Willie from the Medallions story hour)

Thanks for the praise, I'll have to shoot OldDrewId a link to this thread, as he is our main GM (with occasional 'guest directors').

And thanks, Fenzer, for the props. Nice to know the story is getting some exposure. It *is* a fun group, and the funny thing about the SH is that playing in the game is 10-times cooler, mainly because he has to leave a lot of detail and excrutiatingly funny dialogue out of the story for various creative reasons. We are actually about 4 episodes ahead of the Story Hour in game-time, and there are a lot of things that have happenned that I am *very* curious to see how they work out.

We made a conscious decision when we started the campaign to make our characters as 'normal' as possible; none of them started out very action-oriented or combat-savvy. Heck, Willie was considered the main combat guy for a long time just because he had a .44 magnum and somehow happened to occasionally hit things with it (including himself) and he started as a *charismatic hero*.

It's all fun, we interject real-life newspaper headlines into the real-life city we live in, toss in some conspiracy and moderate supernatural stuff, and we have a darn good time. Of course, OldDrewId is probably one of the best DM/GM guys I've ever played with, I occasionally 'guest direct' an episode and just having to follow his act makes me a better DM/GM.

Well, I had an extremely short-lived story hour from a Modern campaign I started.

Unfortunately it ended before much resolution was made beyond the first few sessions. I stopped updating the story hour because I wasn't going to have much else to post and I had few readers.

Man, I just read your SH and it was very good. Maybe you just need better press. We got the word out about the Medallions SH that our GM writes by getting guys like Fenzer to read it and tell their friends. And also by highjacking other peoples threads ;^)

I like your writing style, and the story is quite good. One of the better written SH's on the boards, for all of it's brevity.

Thanks. :) I'm in the process of writing up updates. Working on Part Seven.

It's actually rather slow going. I keep intercutting with background on NPCs. Can't help it, really.

I guess I need better publicity. Thus the new Sig and my nice happy face as my avatar. Get some face recognition, a little readership. :( Six updates and only about 170 views.

Might be my style. It's literary and the characters themselves aren't all that ... funny. Not alot of humor and fun action.

Dont sell yourself short, dude, your writing is good. The NPC background adds a nice change helps the readers identify with a character you are going to introduce, which is a nice writing mechanic to use as long as it's brief.

As far as humor, so far there have been a few laughs, but the whole serious horror feel you've got going is nice; too much humor and you turn a good heart-pumping omigod-it's-about-to-get-me story into slapstick. The characters are very believable in their interactions with each other and their reaction to the big nasty... just what I would do: Grab something to use as a weapon, then run like h*ll ;^)

Yeah, as I recall it took a while for our SH to pick up. Unless you're well known on the boards, you're probably not going to get a lot of views until you've got a good chunk posted.

That's true. :) I've actually been around ENWorld from the begining. I came on Eric Noah's new site, got on the boards, hung out alot. Stuff changed, moved here ... life changed, my name and password got killed so I got the new moniker and have been lurking in the background for most of it. Started reading story hours, stopped posting in the main board from when I stopped playing D&D much ... gotta make a name for myself again, post alot, get known.

BTW, I'm loving the Medallions game. Really enjoying it. The characters are great, you guys as players sound like an absolute blast. I would dearly enjoy finding a mature, sane, functional group of people to play with around here ... and I have to admit, 1/3 of that is I'd like another running game to write a SH about. The story hour is a good excercise and creative outlet.
