I'm new here but I've already spent hours cruising the boards. Some of you are way too good at this art buisness and you should all retire so people will look at my work for a change. (Just kidding, please don't stop the art)
Any way, this will eventually show my work if I could just find a scanner. Until then it will be my questions.

1) How do you draw fire in pencil or in pen.

2) Does anyone have a spare copy of any of these 3D rendering programs or PSP laying around that they can donate to my charity (it's called Give Stuff to Poor Me)

3) What would you say are the proportions of a dwarf, elf, and half orc? are they different from humans?

If you can answer these post a reply. If not post one anyway, I'm lonely here.

Thought you could use a friend. I'm sorry I can't help you with any equipment, or knowledge to help you with art. I, myself am learning and practicing inbetween taking care of house and kids. I am not a professional, as you probably could tell, but I do have fun, and I think, thats what this site is all about...

I too was overwhelmed with everyone elses art, but I've come to grips that art is a person's expression, therefore, each is different and unique. As long as your pleased with your own art, thats whats important. Besides(my husband would back this up), I am my own worst critic, so I know that for every one mistake you might see in my art, I will see five....lol.....

I'm backing it up all right. Except the "I will see five" part isn't entirely accurate. I think she just misspelled fifty.

There are two good tricks to use when drawing fire-- vary the width of your pencil/pen stroke along the line of the flame. Remember that fire is always moving.

Secondly, remember that fire produces light, and even in an otherwise well-lit scene, the flames will cast light and shadow accross anything near to them.

In some scenes, the fire will be the light source.

In the Player's Handbook there is a line-up of the various D&D races that illustrates proportion.

IIRC, half orcs look like steroided-out wrestlers, and dwarves look like very short steroided-out wrestlers. Most comic heroes also look like wrestlers, so you have plenty of source material!

Keep drawing, and get any training you can. Life drawing is extremely important.

A guy I know has a scanner and my sister just got a new laptop. So, I should be in business in the next few days. I'm hoping to get the ball rolling tonight.
I only have an hour seeing that the only internet access I have is at the local library. Hey, Its free. I can't complain.

About that "few days" bit. The guy weioht the scanner didn't work out. and things got a little hectic from there. Here is a little list of what has happened.

45 minute buss ride
7 hours in a computer lab
3 scanners
8 different computers
3 zip disks
2 CDs
4 lab technicians
30 minute evacuation of the building for some unknown reason
3 retries scanning

that was just to get them scanned

3 days of the flu
4 inch long gash along my foot
10-20 psychotic episodes
3 very very aggrivating siblings
9 hours of work
3 very very aggrivating siblings
4 books
1 game session

and to top it off

1 faulty internet connection so I wont be able to post my art until the "thing"(say this with loathing) decides to work.

I'm Alive

I return from afar with good news.

I am not dead. I think...

Here's the plan so far. All of the nitpicking and perfectionist editing is almost done. (It will never be done but it's good enough for now.)

If I can find a lovely little area where I can skip the network connection and surf the web with just a modem, We'll be on track.
Until then I can only give some info on the 3 opening pics.
1) A rather lovely dragon in the oriental style but, a little european style thrown in and a whole lot of whatever the heck looked good at the time. it is pencil work only.
2) This one is a portrait of one of the greatest characters I have ever played. His name is Bill he happens to be 2'6" wears a kilt, sunglasses
and plays the bagpipes. He just might be the worlds only planes shifting kobald bard.
3) This is a really crummy picture but I did what I can. He was a chaotic evil assasin/illusionist. The campaign was really amazing because the whole focus was finding the murderer of severall really imortant people, the catch was that one of the PC was the murderer leading them on a merry little chase. It was quite the diabolical set up, I helped them to track myself down.
