Stupid cookies

Gen Con gained me about 5 pounds, between eating out with friends and the evil that is an impulse buy milkshake. I haven't managed to shake the pounds since then, but I was content that I would eventually.

Then I got it in my head that I would bake cookies for my roommates, and to bring them to the first meeting of the local college's gaming club. Well, my roommates aren't as big chocoholics as I am, and the club meeting was delayed.

Now, I am positive I could not have eaten 5 pounds of cookies last night since you can't get that much matter from 2 1/4 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, 2 sticks of butter, 2 eggs, and 14 ounces of M&Ms, but this morning my scale said I'm now 5 pounds above what I weighed yesterday morning. Maybe the milk is what did me in.

Anywho, I am irked at myself, so I'm going on a mild fast for the next couple of days, to balance out the mild binge I had last night. I'm aiming for 1500 calories a day, which means no soda, and for God's sake no more cookies.

Well, it isn't as if bathroom scales ar the most accurate or precise of instruments available. And you can get a few pounds variance just from wearing different clothes, not to mention how much water or wastes you're carrying around...

Consider - a pound of fat is 3500 dietary calories. If you're stepping from a 2000 calorie diet to a 1500 calorie diet, you'd need to do that for a month and more to catch up. And that is if metabolism was simple - frequently, cutting calories causes your metabolism to slow, so that you don't burn the fat.

What you need to do is change the ratio of burn to intake. Reducing intake is only one possible way of doing that. If your cardiovascular system isn't in horrible shape, you should probably consider increasing your activity more than worrying about exactly how much you're eating.

That's on the docket too. Two hours of basketball tomorrow afternoon should help.
