Stupid person playing high Int character

Spot and Listen checks. The GM is responsible for telling the player what the PC saw or heard, even if the PC wasn't actively making checks.

Knowledge skills. The GM is responsible for telling the player what the PCs knows.

Sense Motive. The GM is sometimes responsible for telling the player things the PC figures out.

With high intelligence or wisdom, the GM is responsible for giving insights to the PC.

Nothing different.

In my Mutants and Masterminds game, one of the PC's is a super intelligent inventor, with an int of 44, computer and science specialties, and is in his RL, a liberal arts teacher with no idea about computers and technology.

We give tons of hints, suggestions, and he gets made out to be a genius. Just because the player cant come up with brilliant options, doesnt mean the 44 int character cant, thats bad roleplaying on everyones part, so we all pitch in to help.

I like this approach, with the DM chipping in too.

Giving help is one of the best ways to do this imo.

For example, let's say your throwing a puzzle at the party. Give the really high int character more information, that way its easier for him to figure out. Still requires him to think, but it helps model the super intelligence he's supposed to have.

I guess it depends on how you judge intelligence. I have a friend who is supposed to be smart. He gets really good grades (Mostly striaght A's), always has, But outside of remembering what he needs to for school, is one of the dumbest people I have ever met.

Then we have my brother who has so many learning disabilities that his Super-High IQ is basically counteracted. However, left to his own devices he can do some amazing things as long as he's aloud to do it his way.

I had a perfect 4.0 cousin who like my friend above couldnt do anything outside of school that even resembled someone of intelligence.

So I dont really have a problem with dumb people playing smarty pants, I just figure if i have a friend who is dumb but is playing a smart character that he or she is like the above. Smart but a few fries short of a happy meal to really use that knowledge effectively.

Or a knowledge arcana or bardic knowledge check.

INT is reasoning, WIS is perception.

Wisdom describes a character’s willpower, common sense, perception, and intuition.

Intelligence is learning and reasoning.

While an Intelligent character could be knowledgeable of the effects of a Deck and intrigued by the possibilities, a Wise character would be wary of the drawbacks and have the willpower to resist the temptation of using one.

Intelligence is knowing and reasoning how to do things. Wisdom is knowing if you should do things.

It is more a matter of Wisdom than Intelligence.
