Stupid Questions

My group’s questions:
As one of the few members of my gaming group that has entered the 21st century, [I have a few that still in the 19th century mentality] I am asking some basic questions that nobody seem to be able to answer. They have heard so many rumors that these stupid questions must be asked.
1.Are the six basic attributes going to be included? [STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA]
2.There are Classes with levels?
3.There will still HP & AC?
4.You still roll 1d20 add a Modifier and if it is above the DC you successes?
5.Elves still use Longbows and Dwarves are still short?
As you can see some of these questions are dumb, but someone has asked them. Please help me.

Thank you for your time

To answer your first question there hasn't been anything implying that it is going to be different. Otherwise, like Nikosandros, yes. I'm just expanding on the answers to the questions. Nikosandros has it right though in brief.

The second answer to expand on what Nikosandros has said there are going to be thirty levels. Each ten separated into different categories. The third tier is Epic; I can't remember what the other two are. Rumor has it when you reach 30th level you reach your characters goal in life. The Cleric is personally serving his god; the mage has a tower in which is a school and so forth.

Rumor has the hit points will be at the amount of the first three levels in total. Just like Arcanis so your survivability is greater; hit points will be the amount of the first three levels. The word on AC is that it doesn't work any different. Saving throws are turned around. Instead of the person rolling a save when someone casts a spell at him; the castor has to roll against your save. If he rolls higher than your save number whether it is Reflex, Fortitude, or Will; he affects you.

To answer your forth question. Like Nikosandros, the answer is yes except that you roll to hit the others save DC, whether it is a save or a skill.

Elves can use a longbow and another weapon. I can't remember the other weapon, sorry. Elves are now taller, about a foot taller and Dwarves are still short and stout, and that is from the Races and Classes book. :)

1. Yes, the six classic attributes are still used. One change is that the core races apparently offer only bonuses to ability scores, not penalties - elves have +2 to Dexterity and +2 to Wisdom, with no penalty to Constitution.

2. Yes. The core rules will support 30 levels - 1-10 is called the "Heroic" tier, where the PCs will typically be dungeon-delving and saving their home village from catastrophe; 11-20 is called the "Paragon" tier, where the PCs might save their entire nation or invade a drow city to eliminate their leaders and forestall a war; 21-30 is called the "Epic" tier, when the heroes might regularly adventure across the planes, battle powerful demons, and the like.

In the Paragon and Epic tiers, characters can pick up "paths" which add on to their normal classes - a fighter might become a weapon master, for instance, in the paragon tier, or realise his previous lives as an eternal hero in the epic tier. These aren't prestige classes per se, since this fighter never stops advancing as a fighter. The epic paths are supposed to give you an idea of how your character's career might come to an end once you pass 30th level - you might become a demigod, found an academy of magic, serve your god as an emissary, or something like that.

3. Yes, there are still hit points and Armour Class. Instead of the three Third Edition saving throws, however, Fourth Edition uses Fortitude, Reflex, and Will defences - so just as you roll normal attacks against Armour Class, a charm spell will be rolled as an attack against your target's Will defence, and a pit trap might roll an "attack" against your Reflex defence.

4. Yes, d20 + modifiers versus a DC is still the basic resolution mechanic.

5. Elves are automatically proficient with both longbows and shortbows in Fourth Edition, and dwarves are still short and stout, never fear. The only thing that has definitely been said about dwarves that might be different from what you're used to is that dwarven women are beardless.

Two things:

1) Welcome to the boards.

2) Don't be afraid to ask what you feel is a dumb question, we were all new at one point in time or another and asked what we all felt was a dumb question or ten.
