Subverting other sources for D&D. . .

I think that it would be hard to argue that the starship in Barrier Peaks (as presented) is anything but a sci-fi starship, and its police bots as anything but artifacts of science.
Well yes, I wasn't going to argue That. :) I think that it was said Barrier Peaks was just an experiment to see if Traveller would work. But honestly, I never played 1e and barely any 2e, so this is all academic and second-hand to me.

I think I see where we got our wirtes crossed on psionics, though.
Someone once described why Psionics are in fantasy in the first place, though.

1) In the old days of Sword and Sorcery comics/novels, "Warrior saving the Princess from Evil Mages" and "Warrior Saving the Princess from Psionic Aliens" was so close together that they were almost the same thing.

2) Psionics popped up in 1e because at the time, Firestarter, Carrie and other such things were getting big.

As a side note, I will say that I'm somewhat uncomfortable with Sci-Fi stuff that is so sci-fi it hurts being just dumped into Fantasy. Case in Point: Draenei from WoW. The Draenei are actually aliens. Their spaceships crash-landed in WoW and they can't get back home. That just... I'm not cool with "We're just from space" that's so overt. It feels wrong. Illithids, from other dimensions, works because you have stuff like Planes, but Space?

OTOH, in my campaign notes for an FRPG, I have the classic sci-fi "Greys" (looking like the Asgard of Stargate, if you're unfamiliar) cast as a version of classic Underhill Fey Elves. Their ship crashed, leaving them with only enough tech to generate a zone outside of regular time & space in their crash site, now covered by a great barrow...and they've continued their observations & experiments...

Skaven from WH40K. Not sure if they're in WHFRPG though.

They were transported into Scarred Lands as the Slitheren. Man, I loved those guys. :D

Power Armor. Not Mecha, but just a full body suit of armor with magical abilities.

I'm almost positive Urza created some kind of armor like you describe in Magic. He also created mecha, of a sort, but I swear he created some personal armor as well.

Of course, there's Spelljammer, which is basically Sci-fi with the name crossed out and "FANTASY" written in big bold letters all over it.

I've toyed with the idea of a plane-hopping game based on Stargate; a bunch of different worlds connected by rings to explore.

You could probably do a pretty good fantasy crime drama if that's your thing (it's not mine, personally). You could even make some use of the fantasy tropes... The latest murder victim was actually turned into a statue; suspect is a medusa, but it was really a guy with a pet basilisk.

In a high-magic world, every kingdom could have a powerful bound outsider as a sort of "supercomputer," with lots of magical devices throughout the city under its control. Then you can have a sort of "virus" implanted in the "supercomputer," maybe a fiend possesses the outsider or something.

The Phoenix Foundation from MacGyver.

Faerûn’s gates. Actually used to invade a prim ematerial plane due to homeworld dying.

Personally I'd love to see dececent racial stats writeup for Disney's Gargoyles for use in my homebrew.

I had a race I called Daywalker Gargoyles which were based off of Demona. There were other gargoyles as well that were like the rest of the Disney gargoyles, but I deemed them unsuitable for PCs since they're statues all day long.
