Suggestions for my Contingency

I used Contingency: Spell Resistance "if I am about to be affected by a hostile spell" at one point. It was very effective, but required Arcane Disciple to pull off.

My personal reading of the spell, as player and DM, is that the spell isn't divinatory. It can't predict that something is going to happen, so no "If I am going/about to..." clauses.

I'd say that in this "if I am about to...." case, it would rely on the mage's own senses and judgement. It would trigger if you see a spellcaster targetting you with a spell...but I think by then it might be too late.

My archmage used this in the past....when true seeing was less common at low-mid levels.
"If I am attacked in melee, cast Displacement."
EDIT: Never mind...just saw the banned school.

Blink would be a good substitute. Plus summoner-types have less to lose from blinking...they don't need to worry about the 20% miss chance while blinking if they summon monsters, etc.

Sure they do - it's a 20% chance that they summon their monster *on the ethereal plane*!

:)

We played it pretty much that way. Activating was a free action, but you had to be aware of the triggering condition. If you saw the spellcaster, you could activate the Contingency, but if you were flat-footed you couldn't.

Of course, then my mage got Foresight, and, well...
