Sundering with a Maul of the Titans

The SRD lists the Maul of the Titans as: "This mallet is 8 feet long. If used as a weapon, it is the equivalent of a +3 greatclub and deals triple damage against inanimate objects. However, the wielder must have a Strength of at least 18 to wield it properly. Otherwise, she takes a -4 penalty on attack rolls."

Does that mean that if a sundering attempt is made on a shield, weapon or a carried/worn object, the damage is trippled? If so, with the minimum Strength needed to wield it properly, even if the die was rolled as a 1, it'd do 30 damage. I.e., enough damage that any mundane shield or weapon (not made from a special material and with no enhancement bonus) would be destroyed. Is that correct or am I missing something?

No, you are not missing anything. Nasty weapon with a hold over ability from previous editions. Multiplication is usually pretty damn broken in D&D, just like in M:tG.

...and rightly so. It's supposed to be a powerful weapon, and does some pretty respectable damage.

It's also a Greatclub, which is honestly the lowest-end of the 2-handed weapons.

When wotc slid the Longspear to simple in 3.5, they should have done the same with the greatclub.

Of course I am one of the advocates for a martial 2-handed 1d12 x3 crit hammer. That is the real Maul IMHO, not the 'FR Bastard Hammer'. In the Core rules there is a two handed sword, a two handed axe, but no two handed hammer .

Battlehammer: 1d10, 20/x3 Bludgeoning (dwarven weapon).

I've always liked the bastard-hammer for some reason. 90% of my dwarven characters are from "Clan Battlehammer".

IMG the greatclub is simple for those with a STR of 13 and up. I also slid both the Greataxe and Maul to 2d6 rather than a D12[unless the attacker wants to roll the d12].

I usually call the 'bastard hammer' the "War-sledge"
