Maybe it's the cheerful violence. Maybe it's the unflattering uniforms. Maybe it's the low-key officiating. I dunno.
When I was a kid and pretending to be Bobby Orr, I used to make my mom pretend to be Bobby Orr's mom. She'd sing "O Canada" for me before each game in the kitchen. That's a good Canadian mom, that is.
