I dunno if other Canadians feel this way, but it's always weirdly heartwarming to hear about Americans enjoying hockey. Of course there's more pro teams in the States than in Canada, and it been a pro sport down there at least as long as it's been up here, but there's just something so...

Canadian about hockey.

Maybe it's the cheerful violence. Maybe it's the unflattering uniforms. Maybe it's the low-key officiating. I dunno.

When I was a kid and pretending to be Bobby Orr, I used to make my mom pretend to be Bobby Orr's mom. She'd sing "O Canada" for me before each game in the kitchen. That's a good Canadian mom, that is.
