Superhero Powers

I thought Cyclopse's power was sucking out the life of any X-man related tv series or movie..
Hey, I liked Cyclops. Those who worked in motion picture media can't seem to know what to do with him.

Captain America

- Minor superhuman strength, speed, precision, and durability (on par with Spiderman, probably a little stronger and tougher, but not as quick).

You usually don't see it very often, but Spiderman is incredibly strong. Cap tops out at maxiumum possible human strength; about 800 pounds. Spider-Man can lift and throw 15 tons. Cap is vastly more skilled combatant that Peter is, though, and that's usually more telling than raw strength.

Hmm...odd. I seem to recall Peter complaining once that he had to strain to pick up (and throw) a small car (Volkswagon, I think). Admittedly, this perhaps wasn't his most unbiased of self-analyses, as he'd just acquired the Dark Costume at the time, and was impressed at his magnified strength. :)

And it may also be that Spiderman doesn't find as many chances/excuses to explore the upper end of his strength range.

As for Cap, I guess the serum wasn't as potent as I thought then. I haven't read much of him, or of the Avengers, so I was going with a pretty limited sample of his shenannigans. Ah well. I seem to recall Wolverine dominating Spiderman in fights for much the same reason too...superior experience (and ruthlessness)...coupled with the fact that nothing Peter did really HURT Wolverine for more than a few minutes. :)

Some help here folks.

My son has gotten into the Marvel Superhero Squad toys of late. And he keeps asking me hwt they can do. Now I know the basics, but it's been a long time since I looked at a comic book. So how about a run down of basic powers. Keep in mind my son is 6, so relative is good. ie My son wants to know is so-and-so is fast, but is he faster than him, but not as fast as Flash etc.

Right now he has:
Angel
Cyclops
Magneto
Colussus
Hawkeye
Captain America

But more are coming so feel free to add.

Thanks for your help.

I think the shield is a vibranium/adamantium alloy.

I am fairly sure this is inaccurate. In Marvel continuity, adamantium was only discovered after Steve Rogers revived from suspended animation, well after the shield was created. Someone called it adamantium-vibranium in the Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and it propagated that way for a while by people using the Handbook as a reference. It has since been corrected in the comics. Cap's shield is a vibranium/steel alloy.

He's gotten stronger lately. Long story involving a controversial story arc.

In any case, if you can track them down, a good source for this stuff are the 'Official Handbooks of the Marvel Universe' that marvel puts out. They concluded a new run of the series and are putting out updates now, so they should still be recent enough to find fairly easilly. These things are a gold mine if you like supers in any form.

This is correct. In fact, it was the attempt to recreate the mysterious combination of vibranium/steel that resulted in Myron McClain creating Adamantium.

I think you guys are mixing up the regular and ultimate versions of the heroes.

Ultimate Captain America has low levels of superhuman strength, as evidenced by leaping out of air craft or diving off of 10-story buildings w/out the benefit of a parachute.

Ultimate Spidey may be significantly stronger than regular Spidey... Spidey was designed to top out at lifting a small Volkswagen.
