Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

I know that was the Silver Age origin, but I don't recall that being mentioned in the movie. (I suspect, like DADHAT, a lot of questions about the movie will be resolved once it's available to rewatch at home with captioning and deleted scenes.)
It was more responding to why all those kryptonian animals were in their own rockets ships - Jor-El was big in to animal testing to perfect his experimental escape pod, who knows how many kryptonian beasties died in the process?

I was going to say the British Invasion comics, but everyone did such a bad job of imitating those, it really felt like they were just trying to Batman: Year One/Dark Knight Returns perfectly innocent comic book characters.

That was always my problem. As I put it when the X-Men slid into the Iron Age: "Wolverine is a perfectly valid character by himself, and stands out as different from most Marvel heroes. The whole X-Men set didn't need to turn into Wolverine."

Honestly, having all of the latter-day Kryptonian tagalongs like Krypto and Streaky and Comet be associated with Supergirl makes more sense than them all getting into separate rockets or something.

Just to be a weird old comic nerd, at one time the only one of those that was Kryptonian was, well, Krypto (heck, I think in recent years not even always him.).

Huh, I'd seen the Golden/Silver/Bronze/Iron progression used pretty consistently for a long time; it was after that that things seemed to have gotten muzzy (of course the borders always were).
Not so much Iron - I've seen Gold/Silver/Bronze then Modern used far more regularly

This is an image from Wikipedia, no mention of Iron

I haven't read it but Krypto shows up in the comic book run of "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" which the new Supergirl movie is based on. Guess Gunn thinks it'll be easier to have Krypto attached to Kara.
By treating Krypto as a shared pet it’s easy to justify him not appearing if the plot doesn’t have a place for him.

I’m pretty sure Krypto would have been a lot better trained had he grown up on the Kent’s farm.
