2. All gnomes should be elementals or half elementals and should be tied to earth. Their counterparts should be tied to the three other elements that are part of their whole original story.

3. All gnomes should be old wizened perverted little men and should be born old. Never female. The counterparts should be the opposite of these qualities including sex.

one of my favourite characters was a white bearded gnome alchemist (and leader of a circus troupe) who like a lusty caliban was enamoured of sylphs and pixies, so I do approve of this concept.

Personally though I’ve always treated Gnome as fey creatures with an affinity for rock (the gnomes imc beleive they were born from The Rock), I also took inspiration from Smurfs so that while most gnomes are male and hairy, there will be one female gnome in a clan who like Naked Mole Rats becomes the Burrow mother and has an emphatic bond with all her offspring.
