From a thing I'm working on:
Variant: Large Size
It's difficult to balance a Large-sized race, so many racial statistics present Medium-sized versions of Large creatures. Maybe these creatures are younger versions of the normal creatures, or runt versions. This variant allows such characters to grow to larger sizes over the course of their adventuring carreer.
When you reach a level in a class that grants the Extra Attack ability, you may exchange this ability for Large size, gaining a size increase instead of the ability to attack twice. You have to decide when you gain the level, and you can only exchange the actual Extra Attack ability, not other abilities which resemble Extra Attack. (For example, the warlock's Thirsting Blade invocation does not count and could not be exchanged, but the bard of the College of Valor does get true Extra Attack and thus could make the exchange.)
If you later gain the Extra Attack feature from another source, you don't get any more attacks, except as described below for fighters.
If you gain 11 levels in the fighter class, you may gain the Extra Attack feature, getting a single extra attack. Alternatively, you may grow to Huge size.
If you reach the 20th level of the fighter class, you may gain the Extra Attack feature, getting a single extra attack beyond what you already have. You can instead exchange this for growing to Gargantuan size.
These options are only available to PCs who are a member of a race that is typically larger than medium-sized, and you can only grow up to the maximum size for your race.
Larger size allows you to attack with larger weapons, which deal multiple dice of damage. Bigger weapons and armor cost more and weigh more; but, your carrying capacity also increases with size. See the tables below for characteristics affected by your size.
Character Size: Combat Multipliers
Size | Weapon Damage Dice | Reach | Battle Grid Size |
Medium | 1 | +0 | 1×1 |
Large | 2 | +5 ft. | 2×2 |
Huge | 3 | +10 ft. | 3×3 |
Gargantuan | 4 | +15 ft. | 4×4 |
Character Size: Weight Multipliers
Size | Equipment Price | Carrying Capacity; Equipment Weight; Food and Water Requirements | Character Weight |
Medium | ×1 | ×1 | ×1 |
Large | ×2 | ×4 | ×8 |
Huge | ×3 | ×10 | ×20 |
Gargantuan | ×4 | ×20 | ×50 |
EDIT: WTH? Why are my tables not working? Screw it, I'm not going to fix it, ENWorld needs to fix their BBCode.
