[SWd20] To those who want Episode III goodies

If it's the update produced by swrpgnetwork.com, I've got that file open right now, and it changes some of the requirements, but mostly just to fit to RCR standards, and by those RAW, Anakin didn't qualify for Sith Lord. Jedi who turn to the Sith can trade in Jedi levels for Sith levels in the same mechanic a D&D Paladin who falls and becomes a Blackguard can trade in Paladin levels for Blackguard levels, you just can't trade in so many levels that you'd lose the prereqs for the class.

Now, I do think that the game should reflect the movies first and foremost, so the Sith Lord class prereqs might need a change to fit how we saw Anakins fall go (he wasn't an expert in Sith lore when Palpatine dubbed him Darth Vader, he knew only the most basic things about them). So apparently he goes from Fringer 1/Jedi guardian 5/Jedi ace 2/Jedi weapon master 4 at the beginning of the movie, he gains a Sith Lord level when he confronts Palpatine, and goes up one level in Sith Lord while trading in a level of Jedi Weapon Master for Sith Lord too.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed they gave him Read/Write Sith and Speak Sith, and even a lot of ranks in Force Grip, so he has all the Sith Lord prereqs except for Sith Lore (the closest he has is 3 ranks of Jedi Lore). The path of least resistance says just to dump the Sith Lore prereq (or say it requires at least 3 ranks of either Sith or Jedi lore). For all we know, Palpatines manipulations of Anakin could have included quietly teaching him some exotic alien language that turned out to be Sith. Apparently he was also getting good at choking people before his fall too, some more of that walking closer and closer to darkness.

Yay! This is a ray of hope for the RPG. (And at least if it dies, they've started filling in the one real gap in stats/game mechanics in the game with Episode III).

While I still don't think there'll be any new books anytime soon, it starts to seem like WotC isn't willing to formally cancel the game, holding out the possibility of returning to it at some future point.

I find it interesting they completely re-did Palpatine's character build from Noble/Dark Side Devotee/Sith Acolyte/Sith Lord into Noble/Dark Side Marauder/Sith Warrior/Sith Lord after Episode III.

Yah, that is interesting...but probably appropriate, given the level of combat expertise Palpatine displays in RotS, something that there was never even a hint of in the other films.

Ah, thanks. I knew it was something like that.

I agree with the rest of your post though. The game rules need to change to reflect the setting, not vice versa.

But it's the same way with Yoda. You could reflect this with his levels of Jedi Master, but that rings hollow to me for some reason.

I think the division between Guardian and Consular needs reexamined-- and by extension, the division between Acolyte and Warrior.

... as for how he gained levels so rapidly, that I can't answer. :)

Oh come on, we've all been in campaigns where the GM plays favorites:

George: "Here you go Ani, another 'role-playing' bonus for your heartfelt interactions with Padme..."

Anikin: "I R0xOR!"

I don't play the SWRPG, but just on principle I'm really glad to see this. RPG's based on movies (and such) deserve update articles like this, so I'm really glad to see WotC not just letting SW fade into nothing.

That or...

Anakin: "I attack Mace Windu."

GM: "You're sure...?"

Anakin: "Yes!!"

GM: "Alright, make a new PC."

Then the GM gives Anakin the appropriate new levels as the NPC Villain of the game. ;)
