I really don't think he should spend over 2 years in prison (if convicted). He had a reason to think there was someone in trouble, I guess chivalry is dead.

I guess I have the opposite view on the situation. I'm sure it was well intentioned, but I don't think it was the appropriate response, and I think that deserves some sort of punishment. I'm not sure jail time is the right punishment, but he certainly needs to be punished for threatening someone with a deadly weapon, which actually does make what he did a felony, good intentions or no.

From what I gather, this guy is probably going to be fined, lectured and do community service. He was released under his own recognizance after processing and no bond was issued from the bench. I doubt jail time will happen even if it goes to trial. The judge will probably go easy on the sentencing unless there is a mandatory minimum for the crimes of which he is charged. (and from what I'm seeing there aren't any that apply in this case.)
