Swordmage: Class creep too fast?

The Sowrdmage's power level is:

  • 5: Too powerful, massive class creep to fast.

    Votes: 15 16.1%
  • 4: More powerful than the other classes, but not too much.

    Votes: 9 9.7%
  • Equal to other classes.

    Votes: 65 69.9%
  • Worse than the fighter and/or mage, needs work.

    Votes: 3 3.2%
  • Pointless and.or low powered.

    Votes: 1 1.1%

Has anyone made a comparison between a Fighter and a Swordmage for the first 3 levels?

Then again, what's there to say that what we see now wouldn't change again when it comes out to print. ;)

Hmm, Sword Burst does look a bit too good. Swordmages can't abuse AOE marking like fighters can, but I'm worried about its ability to clear minions compared with Cleave.

Frost Backlash also looks a bit too good. 3[W]+stat and half damage on miss for a level 1 daily power as an immediate interrupt?

Overall though, the Swordmage's class abilities and at-wills don't look too powerful. We'll see how the rest of the powers are.
 

The main arguement for the power creep will be its AC and its at will area attack for a defender.

the AC is 2 (if including maxed out stat with 20int to start and demigod epic destiny stat increase) better than a fighter in plate with better reflex armor check penalty and movement speed.
As a normal hide fighter with maxed int or dex is 1 better AC at the moment and the swordmage for some unknown reason has an extra 1AC from their shield.

I too like many others have thought that the Greenflame burst attack thingie is vastly superior to cleave, but now playing a bit more I've seen many situations where it wouldn't have been so I think I'm okay with that, its still a must have power for the swordmage though.
 

Speaking of swordmages, their light armor and usage of heavy blades mixed with spell effects reminds me of the heroes from Final Fantasy, such as Cloud or Tidus. Very cool if you are into that.
 

The main advantage of the Swordmage that I see so far is mobility. Between his low level teleports, light armour and aegis of assault, the Swordmage is probably the best Defender to get into the necessary position.

For my swordmage, I took booming blade and Sword burst. I feel swordburst does well for the minion attacking effect that greenflame does. And booming blade I took, not only because of concept but also because I already had a AoE effect. And the extra damage if the target moves away is pretty nice.

You know, I think this was mentioned in a thread somewhere, but I don't know where.

Does anyone know how a Versatile weapon affects Swordmage Warding?
 

If it's in two hands, their hand is not free. People can argue the action requirements beyond that, but I think rules of intent are clear.
