Swords and Socialites Part 1: The Forgotten Forge

Grim, Dwarven Fighter

Grim draws his waraxe and says "Do ye see that lads and lass? Could be trouble about, be on guard" he then rushes forward to check to see if the person is still alive, and looks around the area

Lin's heart leaps in her chest as she sees the body. She briefly wonders to herself how it is that the infinite variety of life always manages to throw up a surprise when it is least expected. It doesn't really occur to her how inappropriate this feeling, almost of elation, is as a response to seeing another being dying or dead, but simply acts on impulse - with a momentary startled cry she sprints forward ahead of the dwarf in her desire to learn more about this mystery.

Seeing the body lying on the ground, Koren nods to Grim, quite on guard now. As the two rush forward he takes a more cautious approach looking around for trouble. Now that there is reason to be alarmed, he silently curses the downpour. "As Grim said, everyone be on the look out for trouble, and don't go rushing in before you know what you are dealing with." Koren says, to the backs of his companions.

"I will watch for ambush Koren."

Palol, heeding Koren's words walks purposefully past his friend, toward the body, eying the surrounding walkways as best he can and searching for a possible ambush. As he approaches the body, he draws his double scimitar, ready to do battle with any villians he sees.

Lin, running the fastest, rushes over to the body on the walkway and gets a closer look. Grim, a bit slower is roughly 20 feet behind her. A few steps back from Grim (10 and 15 ft.), Palol and Koren stand, watching the grisley scene unfold.

Lin:

As you come up to the body, you find that the figure appears to be an elderly male human. He is clutching a satchel in his hand with what can only be described as a death grip. A blossom of red blood is immanating from his back, soaking through both his shirt and his cloak and washing into the rainwater pooling on the walkway. You notice a belt pouch tied to his belt.

Grim:

As you come up to the body, you find that the figure appears to be an elderly male human. He is clutching a satchel in his hand with what can only be described as a death grip.

Palol:

As you watch this next round unfold nothing happens until the very end. Please wait for all other participants to post their first round reaction to seeing the body before posting your own. As you scan the surrounding area, you think you hear something climbing beneath the walkway, just beneath where the body fell. When the attacker jumps out, you will not be surprised.

As probably expected, Lin rushes to the body, Grim accompanies her, while Palol stays near you. Between the rain and your three companions intervening, you can tell little about the body.

Without even thinking about it, the first thing Lin does is to kneel down next to the body and use her advantage of being the first there to shield her actions with her body and slip the belt pouch into a deep pocket in her jacket... which of course happens to be Koren's jacket. This is all simply done almost on instinct. Lin wouldn't think of it as 'stealing' or 'looting the dead' - it's simply taking advantage of the situation.

Lin then examines the body more closely, although rather than trying to ascertain what caused the man's death (it doesn't seem all that important; he's dead, and that's that) she is instantly drawn to the backpack he is clutching, and she moves to that and pokes around to see what it contains.

To Lin:

You take the pouch, but in your excitement jangle the coins a little bit, but the rain covers much of the sound. (Sleight of Hand 8) The satchel is well-made and stylish. Inside you see a collection of quills, inks, and fine papers. Also, In another compartment of the satchel, there is an apple, wrapped in cloth, and a book that appears to be a journal. PS: For right now, please wait to post again until the other two non-posting-yet PCs have posted their imediate actions.

To Grim:

You close with the body, moving to stand next to Lin, and kneel down over what you are now quite sure is a corpse. On your way, working around Lin, you think you spot her slipping something into her jacket pocket. As you check the wounds, all you can determine is that he apparently died from a single, great wound to his lower back, clearly a mortal wound. (Heal 9) PS: For right now, please wait to post again until the other two non-posting-yet PCs have posted their imediate actions.

Having stood a moment to ascertain the situation, Koren moves towards the group at an even pace. "Is he dead? What happened?" He asks to the two kneeling over the body.

Palol walks slowly around the group clustered around the body, his eyes locked on the streets and passages surrounding the walkway.

Something here feels...wrong...

and then his head jerks to the side, as if Palol hears something.

"From under the passageway...LOOK OUT!"
