Swords and Socialites Part 1: The Forgotten Forge

Just as Palol calls out, a cloaked figure clutching a battle axe in one hand vaults over the side of the passageway and lands next to the body, near Palol and Grim. This figure is clearly hostile and moves in to punish Palol for calling out his warning.

OOC: Surprise Round Init: Palol (21), Enemy (17)
Total Init: Palol (Unconscious), Lin (17/+3), Enemy (17/+1), Grim (14), Koren (6)

I trust you guys to roll for yourselves. If rolls are suspiscious, then I will have to roll for you, and combats will slow way down: Please don't let this happen! Go ahead and roll attacks and damage together.

Set up: Palol and Lin are "flanking" the dead body's space. On one side of Lin is the edge of the bridge, and Grim is on the other side. The enemy is standing next to the dead body, threatened by Grim, Lin, and Palol (and threatening them). Koren is standing behind Lin (AKA The dead body and Koren are "flanking" Lin). Post in Init order.

Grim:
For future reference, please wait until your initiative to post your attacks, just to keep things easy. And I never said that the enemy is a Warforged. I don't mind that you are familiar with the module, just try and keep your ooc knowledge seperate. No harm done.

Palol's attack comes up short, slashing the space in front of the cloaked enemy. As the enemy moves in to attack Palol, his hood falls back, revealing that the attacker is a warforged.

The warforged, after avoiding Palol's blow sees and opening and delivers a savage 2-handed slash with his axe into the the elf's stomach, splitting Palol's stomach open and splilling his insides onto the rain-soaked bridge.

"Which one of you flesh-bags will be the next to die!"

((OOC: Critical Hit. 21 damage)

Once she takes in the situation, Lin reacts fast and, pulling out her whip, rushes to within striking distance of the warforged assassin and lashes out at his weapon in an attempt to deprive him of his offensive capability.

(Disarm Attempt 1d20 (15)+2=17)

"Palol!!!" Koren says, stepping back in horror. He regains his composure and launches a mental assault on the assailant. (mind thrust dc 15 1d10(7)dmg)

Lin steps just out of range of the warforge's axe, and tries to disarm his weapon. The warforged nearly loses his grip, but pulls the axe free of the whip's coils.

Looking annoyed, the warforged steps toward the rather vocal dwarf.

"Flesh-born, with those words you have sealed your fate!"

The warforged swings a savage 2-handed cut at the (still flat-footed) dwarf and slashes a gash into Grim's shield arm, causing a significant amount of blood to start pouring from the wound. (Hit, 10 damage)

Grim retaliates and finds an opening in the warforged's slashes, finding and carving a good portion of wood out of the assassin's side.

Koren then blasts mental energy at the warforged, causing it's head to wrench nearly a quarter of the way around, and many joints and supports connecting it's head to it's body begin to crack and splinter. Despite this damage, the warforged remains standing.

From the surrounding towers the three of you hear shouting

"Call the Watch!" and "Murder! They are murdering that man! HELP!"

Lin looks momentarily over at the disturbance and curses silently, but quickly decides that it is a bridge that shall need to be crossed when they come to it, and not before. She trusts her ability to divert the wrath of the law when they arrive.

For now, seeing that Grim is barely keeping up with the assassin in close combat, she gives up on her abortive attempt to disarm the warforged and instead begins flicking the whip about in distracting patterns, feinting as if she is going to make more attempts against the weapon and thus preventing it from attacking freely.

(Aid another 1d20 (15) +0 = 15 (hit - Grim is at +2 AC))

The Warforged lets out a bitter cry of anger, and all of a sudden seems to be fighting with a bit more desparation, a bit more power...and a bit more recklessly.

"Ahhrgh! I will not be bested by some pathetic fleshlings!"

The infuriated warforged takes another savage swing at Grim, finding an opening. Grim isn't fast enough to stop it. Seconds before it connects, Lin's whip flashes in front of the warforged's face, causing it to flinch and jump back, the battle axe missing Grim completely.

"For that GIRL, you will be the next to die!!!!"

Shouts continue to sound from the surrounding towers.
"Hey, stop that!" and "Call the Watch! Call the Watch!"
