Swords and Socialites Part 1: The Forgotten Forge

Grim, dwarven fighter

Grim grunts in paun from the powerful blow the forged dealt him, yelling "No walking jurk pile is going to hurt me friends and get away with it!"

Grim again swings again with his axe...

The axe blow catches the warforged right in the midsection, shattering it's chest-cavity. Out of the exploding shards of the warforged's chest, a small piece of metal sprouts tiny wings and flys off into the night. The warforged falls to the ground next to the bodies of the mysterious man and Palol.

The three of you hear the unmistakable whistles of the city watch on their way- distant, but rapidly approaching.

Grim, dwaven fighter

Grim swing as the flying ball looking thing and then hits the fallen warforged again "You bastard!" ignoring the whistles.

Taking a moment to compose herself, Lin hands her weapons to Grim. 'Hold these.' she whispers urgently, and then runs out to the source of the whistle, crying 'officer! Officer! Come quickly! My friend's badly hurt.'

Koren hangs his head, covering his face in with his palm. How could things have gone so wrong on their first adventure together? Palol had worked for him only a short time, but he had come to know the Valenar warrior quite well. He dropped to his knees feeling guilty for having failed to protect his vassal and friend.

Two males and a female, wearing the green-and-black studded leather of Sharn's City Watch, emerge from the rain-drenched night. The leader, a powerfully built bald dwarf with a close-cropped beard, steps foward, leveling his crossbow at Lin. The small ball of arcane light, hovering just above his right shoulder, illuminates the area, To each side a human male and female stand with halberds at the ready.

"Olladra's bloody nose!" the dwarf curses. "By order of the Watch, stop right there, calm down, and explain yourself! Turn around girl, let's go to the scene of the crime, and we'll sort out who hurt who here!"

The dwarf motions with his crossbow toward the end of the bridge, obviously expecting Lin to head back toward the scene of the battle.

Lin immediately turns, putting on a show of not knowing what she could possibly have done wrong, and certainly never wishing to disobey the Guard, and walks back obediently. She summons up some tears and sniffles to aid her in her 'bewildered damsel-in-distress' routine. Inwardly she curses. Why did it have to be a dwarf? I can't work dwarves. Why couldn't it have been a nice, handsome, gullible human? Or an elf? Gods, even a gnome would have been better...

Koren hears the approach of the guard and tries to gather himself. It takes quite a few moments before he is able to stand again. Just as they arrive with Lin, he turns to meet them. He quickly rubs his face of any tears that might have been shed, before anyone can see them. Once he has gotten a hold of himself he replies, "Oh the guard, thank goodness you are here. We came upon the scene of this body here, who lies still as we found him. As we were approaching we were ambushed by that 'forged lying there. I have no idea what we or this poor gentleman did to offend the afformentioned warforged, but he screamed death and slew my compatriot." At this he pauses again, taking a few deep breaths before continuing. "We defended ourselves as best we could against his savage attack. He fell just before you arrived on the scene." Koren finishes, truely hurt by the loss of his friend.

Grim, dwarven fighter

Grim puts up his axe and waits for the Watch to come. He looks sadly at Palol while he was just an elf... he was me first friend I did make on the road and fellow warrior... I should have been out in front... tis just not right

The dwarf and his two guards listen to your stories, start looking over the scene, and talking to witnesses that begin making themselves known. A number of students from Morgrave University step foward and provide testimony that validates your story. The dwarf rifles through the satchel the dead man was grasping, and finds some ID papers in his shirt pocket. All of these things he takes as evidence. He then looks over Palols body, finding the ID papers in his pack.

The dwarf turns to Koren, Lin, and Grim, and says sympathetically, "I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend...and for my previous gruffness...it seems that the four of you were caught between doing the right thing, and trying to help this...Provost Bonal Geldem, and doing the safe thing: turning the other way, like so many in Sharn. Your heroism and bravery are commendable."

The dwarf leans foward, reaches into his pouch, and whispers, "I am not technically authorized to do this, and it is more of a gesture than any real help, but for your heroism, please accept this small reward. And if you ever need any help from the Menthis Plateau Watch, ask for me...Sgt. Dolom. Maybe I can do you a favor one day as a true reward."

Sgt. Dolom, trying to look as sneaky as possible, but failing miserably, hands 2 gold coins to each of you before leaning back and looking around to see if anyone say the transaction. No one seems to care or have noticed.

"As for...um...er...unpleasant details...what should we do with the body of your companion? We can transport it somewhere within the city if you wish...to a temple for last rights or, um, whatever his religon calls for."

He looks expectantly at you for an answer, obviously uncomfotable with this sort of thing: mostly because he seems to genuinely like the three of you and sympathise with your loss.
