As the trio climb halfway up the staircase they hear raised voices coming from the area of the front door. A series of shots ring out. "Stop. I said argh!", the voice of Brixton's security man ends upruptly. Brixton shoots an alarmed look at the two heroes.
Avatar's mind raced. "Shots first, then the guard speaks...this wasn't the way the OI was attacked", he surmised, and decided that the masked figure at the museum was unlikely to be the source of the gunfire. "Either this is unrelated, the intruder is just Dawson's henchman, or it's a diversion." Deciding that no one course of action would cover all three possibilities, and seeing Sergeant racing off to confront the intruder, Avatar turned to Lord Brixton. "Button up that vault and hide...we'll take care of this", he suggested. Avatar drew his pistol and quickly followed Sergeant, mentally reviewing the layout of Lord Brixton's estate for good hiding places, as he longed to surprise the intruder instead of confronting him openly. "I hope these fancy UN bullets work", he thought as he descended the stairs.

[sblock=OoC: ]If the intruder(s) are just garden-level henchmen, Avatar will use what concealment and cover is available to gain favorable odds, and just shoot it out with them. But if Dawson is present, he'll want to lay an impromptu ambush so that he can use his Sneak Attack skill (+2 to save DC). He'll also want to use Power Attack at the same time, trading 4 points off his attack to gain 4 on the save DC (Attack = [+11] [-4] = [+7], Save DC = [+4 (heavy pistol)] [+2 (Sneak Attack)] [+4 (Power Attack)] = [+10]). If Sneak Attack is unavailable, he'll trade off 5 points on the Power Attack (Attack = [+11] [-5] = [+6], Save DC = [+4] [+5 (Power Attack)] = [+9]), if you'll allow that (reference Power Attack limitations).[/sblock][/sblock]

[SBLOCK=OOC]Just a note about power attack, you cannot raise the DC modifier over twice teh original modifier. So an heavy postol do +4 to DC, with power attack, you cannot raise it over +8, so you can Power attack at +4/-4 maximum with an heavy pistol.[/SBLOCK]

Avatar and Sergeant run down the stairs and round the corner to the hallway leading to the foyer. They see two figures that look like dessicated corpses wwith empty eye sockets. The butler and security officer lay in heaps behind the walking corpses.

OOC: there is cover from the wall, but really no sneak attack opportuntities. fire away?

"He can turn invisible!" tells Sergeant before making a move to say to Avatar to stay silent. He close his eyes, knowing sight would distract him and listen to sound in the room, trying to figure the sorcerer location.

[sblock=Auction House]"My lady, I am known as Paladin. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintence. We seek after knowledge of an artifact that was sold here. It is known as the Winged Disk Tablet. You see, there has been a theft of an associated artifact in America and we are attempting to track down the related pieces to ensure the safety of the artifacts as well as any who might come between the thief and the object of his desire. Since there were deaths involved in the first theft, we seek to safeguard those who have been your customers. So as you can see, sharing this knowledge with us (in complete confidence of course) will benefit us both. What say you, Lady Green?"

OOC:Diplomacy check (1d20+18=26)[/sblock]

Avatar froze, to allow Sergeant a chance to listen for the footsteps of an invisible sorcerer. Avatar took advantage of the pause to draw a careful bead on the closest shambling corpse.[sblock=OoC: ]Avatar will give Sergeant a round or two to listen, unless the walking corpses advance on them. If they do, he will Power Attack for +4 as described in the previous post. If they close to within 15', he will use his whip, as he suspects Lord Brixton's guard was probably a fair shot and his bullets failed to stop the intruders.[/sblock][/sblock]

"I think it is still the policy of this auction house to protect the personal information of our clients. If it was up to me i'd tell you, but it isn't my decision. Christie's will not relinquish that information without a court order" , she says, her tone softening slightly. [sblock=for Psyren's eyes only] Well, aren't you cute in your little knight getup. If I knew I might break the rules for dinner [/sblock][/sblock]

The two adventurers remain quiet for approximately twelve seconds, but neither hear anything unusual, although they hear a door open and close from the area where they left Brixton to "button up" the vault. Both corpses continue to stride towards the two men closing to within twenty feet when Avatar's shot rings out. Shockingly, the shot goes wide of its target, burying itsef in the wall behind the walking dead. Sergeant brings his pistol to bear, htiing the lead corpse in the shoulder. The corpses charge the two adventurers, and will close for melee soon.

OOC: Corpse 1 is bruised. Both corpses will close for melee attacks next round.

OOC: Wanted to remind everyone that I will be out of town for a week started this wednesday. Weather is threatening my fishing/sea kayaking plans.

[SBLOCK=Mansion]"Zombie now..." Sergeant shoot again at the wounded corpse, power attacking at +4/-4 (Rubber bullet have effect on them?)[/SBLOCK]
