T1: A Visit to Spelding Square [Completed]

Pendrake will move to the stall with the canvas pulled over it and use his sword to move aside the canvas to see behind it.
 

The group move forward towards the centre of the Square, pausing again to strain their senses, again with no result.

Peladus positions himself to illuminate Pendrake's inspections while still keeping Quozen in view as the elf and Ngikhnit move further forward. Midias guards the wizard's flank.

Pendrake finds that the front flap of the market stall is tied off with leather straps through eyelets in the canvas, but it is the work of moments to sever several with the tip of his sword so he can pull aside the cover at one side.[sblock=Midias,Peladus,Pendrake]Peladus' light no longer extends all the way back to the alley. Blackness falls between the light of the staff and the lamps back out in the street.[sblock=Pendrake]You peer behind the canvas flap. Inside is the wooden table you might have expected.

And also, gazing down at you from the top of the stall's framework, with glassy eyes, a protruding mouth, and a bloated yellowish body pierced by a hundred spines....

Fortunately, you realise almost at once that it's nothing more than the dried corpse of some strange fish, long since dead, hanging there as the emblem of the stallholder or as a curiosity for customers.[/sblock][sblock='Nock]

Midias

Midias doesn't like stumbling around in the dark. He will stay by the light and moves slowly to avoid to much noise.

"UNGH! " Pendrake utters a cry of suprise at the sight of a strange water creature and even jumps back from the stall. His reaction is stilled when he realizes that the spiny fish thing is not what they are looking for, even moreso: dead. He glances back at every one else with a face red with embarresment.
 

Upon hearing Pendrake's startled reaction, Ngikhnit again tightens his grip on his flail as he turns back to see what the commotion is about.

He'll take a closer look at that stall, not assuming as quickly as Pendrake that it is nothing.
 

On checking, Ngikhnit confirms that Pendrake's momentarily startling discovery is just an ugly dried-up bulbous-eyed spiny-bodied fish, inflated into a bladder about the size of a human head, and tied to the wooden frame of the stall with twine.

The canvas tent otherwise contains just a wooden table. But lying behind one of its legs, he spies a lost copper coin.

Perhaps that's good luck.

Midias just wanted to shout 'Don't touch it! Maybe it is trapped!' as he sees Ngik touching something on the ground, but then it is already to late.
