The group move out from the confines of the market stalls, and everyone's view opens up a little. Just a little to your left, there is a shattered lantern lying on the ground.

The humans become aware for the first time of three smaller structures west of the stalls, little wooden shelters. Beyond the shelters, the cobblestones reflect back tiny specks of light as you move.[sblock=Ngiknhnit, Quozen]The Square ends fifty feet past the shelters with what must be a sharp drop into the sea. In the north-west corner, a wooden jetty heads out over the water, sloping down steeply. To your north, there is yet another alley, and spread out over the ground beside it is a fishing net. You can see much of the Square now, but there is still no sign of any strange creature.[/sblock]At almost the same time, everyone becomes aware of an odour beneath that of the ever-present fishiness - a foul rotting smell, with an acrid note.[sblock=Maps][sblock=Midias,Peladus,Pendrake]

[/sblock]OOG: I don't think it's giving much away to say that from now on, you might want to state precisely to which square your PC moves, and probably by what route. Unfortunately, the mapping program refuses to overlay a sensible coordinate system on the map (Square "-D,12" is not far away), so it'll have to be as "W-W-NW-NW-W" if you want to be precise.[/sblock]

Midias

Midias has still no idea what the others had seem to seen, but tries to stay next to Pendrake as he moves. He tries to ignore the foul odor, but his mind searches for things that could produce it.

shall I roll know (religion)?
Midias will move with Pendrake, holding the relative position.
Holding Weapon and shield in his hands.

[sblock=Midias]Experiencing the smell yourself doesn't lead to any more precise insight than when Miss Lightpurse recounted her experience: undead may reek of corruption; the stench of ghasts can be strong enough to sicken even the strongest stomach; there are ghouls that lurk in the sea, preying on shipwrecks.[/sblock]

Pendrake gags momentarily, but he catrches himself as he re-grips his viking long sword and Midias' sunrod

"Ruikt naar ondergrondse stad." he says, recounting the horid place he just returned from.

[sblock=translation]smells like underground city[/sblock]

Ngikhnit

"What is that awful smell?"

Ngikhnit tries to figure out what direction the smell comes from, and then cautiously move toward it. If he can't discern anything, he will move northwest, trying to keep just in front of the others.

Peladus provides himself with a degree of magical protection. Ngikhnit quests with his nose, angling forward cautiously a little way ahead.[sblock=Ngikhnit]The glinting points of light on the cobbles in the west of the Square turn out to be the fish scales of many seasons' catches, ground in too deeply to be removed.

With the two light bearers behind you, the middle hut casts a great dark shadow nearby extending right out to the drop off into the sea.[/sblock][sblock=Quozen][sblock=Really, just Quozen]It is as though the light shifts oddly, or your eyes refocus themselves. In clear well-lit space between two of the huts, where a moment ago there was nothing but cobblestones, shadows suddenly writhe and twist together, creating a form from nothing.

It is black, or it hints at a yellow so dark as to be black. Its flesh, if that is what it is, is glossy and leathery at the same time. The whole is less tall than a man or an elf, but it keeps no clear shape. One instant, it tries to draw itself up into a semblance of a humanoid figure, the next it is a hunched domed shape, then little more than a fungoid spreading mass. Appendages reach forward, rippling at their edges as they contact the stones, and pull the bulk of its body forward to collapse over them again. But at all times, no matter what its shape, two questing tentacles twitch spasmodically in the air above the creature.

All this happens in seconds. It moves utterly silently toward Ngikhnit, coming to within ten feet of the half-ogre, who seems to be entirely unaware.

OOG: surprise round, of a sort. Quozen is up.[/sblock][/sblock][sblock=Maps][sblock=Midias,Peladus,Pendrake]
