T1: A Visit to Spelding Square [Completed]

The people inside the shed keep throwing themselves against the doors. Ngikhnit makes them shake, but Quozen's blow from off to the side must be made too awkwardly to be effective. Then Pendrake at last finds his mettle, and his shoulder splinters the old dry timbers.

Peladus and Gillin, long since forewarned, sidestep the falling wood.

The party meet face to face again after an anxious few seconds. Midias, standing at the foot of the ladder, now looks as battered, bruised and burned as everyone else. Pendrake, too, looks worse off than he did before climbing atop the roof.[sblock=OOG]Wow, rolls of 1, 5, 7, 2, 1, 6, 5, 7, 5, 5. I should give the shed doors XP for defeating you (they'd take a level in Doorcerer or Dooruid or Dooragon Disciple ...I'll get my coat). But instead I took pity and let Pendrake use the roll previously made ahead of time.

Pendrake, a move action remaining. Although if anyone wants to, I don't know, call out a warning or anything before he moves, speaking is a free action.

Too tired to do a proper map, so here is just the view into the yard. Pendrake is south of Peladus, Ngikhnit is south of Gillin, and Quozen is east of Ngikhnit.[sblock=Map]

Gillin points up with Mildred. "It's on the ladder right above the priest's head!" he warns.[sblock=OOG]That is, UT3 threatens every square with a red dot. It does not threaten through the doorway into the square south of Peladus, where Pendrake stands, due to cover.

OOC: if Trouvere is slow in posting. He is very much under the weather and is SUPPOSED to be RESTING *ahem-get off the computer T* so I ask for us all to be patient-AGAIN!

OOC: you mean like move through the door and get hit by IT? I think I am going to be fine
Pendrake stops just short of going out the door as he is not sure where the creature is.

As the creature appears out of nowhere Peladus drops his staff and jumps back. Grabbing a scroll, he feverishly starts reading off the spell which will send a magic missile winging towards the thing.

The writing on the scroll vanishes into a flare of light that flies true into the heart of the creature, setting its leathery darkness-fringed appendages writhing in discomfort.

Gillin dances on his thin legs and looks as if he wants to beat the creature to death with Mildred then and there. But realising that if he closes he will block those in the shed from attacking too, he instead brushes behind Peladus and starts clambering over the planks that litter the yard to make his way around to the far side of the ladder.[sblock=OOG]I'd say 5 ft step (non-action), drop staff (free), grab scroll (move), cast (standard). Caster level check vs SR 15, 1d20+1=16; magic missile damage 1d4+1=2 :erm:

[/sblock]OOG: Midias...

Midias

Midias fears that a blow from his weapon will just split the creature again, so he just tries to hide behind his shield and not to die...

[sblock=OOC]

move: draw morningstar
standard: full defense
free: 5ft step up on the map.

Frenzied, the creature slithers down the ladder. It slips from everyone's sight, and Midias's defensive posture falters.[sblock=Midias, Peladus, Pendrake, Quozen]An instant later it reappears, a bulky protrusion having just slipped past Midias's foot. Its twinned tentacles writhe about, trying to wrap the cleric in a horrid crushing embrace, but each slips harmlessly from the smooth surface of the shield he hides behind.

[/sblock][sblock=Ngikhnit]Midias' subsequent weaving and re-angling of his shield shows that he has successfully warded off several attacks from the base of the ladder, though the creature remains lost to Ngikhnit's sight.

[/sblock]OOG: I rolled touch attacks of natural 2, 4 and 1. How anticlimactic! Next up, Ngikhnit, the only one to blow his Spot check... :hmm:
