From each side of the doors come a series of shouts and thumps in the course of several attempts to break them open, but they prove maddeningly, almost impossibly, resistant.

OOG: party's d20 rolls to open this ramshackle door: 1, 5, 7, 2, 1, 6, 5.
p(7d20<28)=0.000694. About 1 in 1440. Nice going, heroes! :D
Quozen and his oar...? Then Midias on the ladder!

OOC: Can Misias withdraw, coming down the ladder? If yes, he does that. If not, how much damage would he take for jumping down?
Also, I said he was looking for a place on the roof to stand, not staying on the ladder...

[sblock=Ngikhnit, Pendrake, Quozen]While the others throw themselves against the door and bounce off, Quozen tries to take a vertical route out, but cannot quite get a good grip on the post.

OOG: climbing the post would be DC 15; it's 20 feet to the top. Since he needs his hands free to climb, does he drop the oar? or tuck it across his back?[/sblock][sblock=Walking Dad]OOG: Midias could not move onto the roof (which might have led to him falling through anyway) - the roof square in front of the ladder is a Ngikhnit-shaped hole.

There is a rule that "you may not withdraw using a form of movement for which you don't have a listed speed." After a bit of rules checking, I think you do Climb a ladder (in the sense that the skill is used, whereas you do not for instance need a Climb check to climb stairs). The DC to climb a rope ladder is 0; the DC to climb a regular solid ladder is not stated anywhere I can see, but it must be trivially easy, perhaps DC -5. If that is so, then Midias cannot withdraw, so would provoke an AoO for starting to climb down.

If Midias jumps off, he will still provoke an AoO for leaving a threatened square. He would fall 10 feet or so, so will risk 1d6 nonlethal damage, which can be avoided by a DC 15 Jump check. He will land prone ("If you attempt a Jump check untrained, you land prone unless you beat the DC by 5 or more").[/sblock]

OOG: correct: "Any situation that denies you your Dexterity bonus also denies you dodge bonuses." Not that it matters in the least:[sblock=Midias, Peladus]Midias, attention focused on negotiating the ladder, retreats down it, giving the creature an opening. It swipes at him with an extruded limb, but it passes harmlessly above his head.

OOG: it takes 20 ft of move to descend the ladder, which leaves Midias with a standard action or a second move action, if you wish. Then the creature acts.[/sblock]

Glad to be back on firm ground, Midias prepares himself for melee

OOC: could he also draw his morningstar on his last step for free as part of his movement.
OOG: I am pretty sure he can, if he does things in a slightly different order. The sequence climb down ladder (move), drop crossbow near bottom (free), ready shield (free as part of move with BAB +1, so I guess it can be accomplished near the bottom of the ladder), draw morning star (second move action) seems reasonable to accomplish. Otherwise, I'd have to ponder whether a PC needs his opposite hand free to strap a shield in place. But hey, if that's all too complicated, it doesn't really matter - he's not going to lose a full attack if he has to draw the weapon next round; the only difference it would make is that he won't threaten or be able to take AoOs until he acts. I'll just make sure that doesn't come up!
[/sblock][sblock=Midias, Peladus]The creature launches itself forward over the edge of the shed roof, dropping straight towards Midias' head. At the last second, portions of its darkness-blurred body extrude and wrap around the ladder's rungs, stopping its descent. Part of its bulk continues forward and deals the priest a heavy blow tinged with acid about the shoulders. The paired tentacles on its upper side whip the air, and one catches Midias a second time.

OOG: creature '5 ft slithers' NW off the roof after Midias, falls, but catches itself on the ladder (go, go, gadget Climb speed!), and thus full attacks Midias, hitting once for 6, a second time for 5, and then missing. Midias drops from full 18 to 7 HP.[/sblock][sblock=Ngikhnit, Pendrake, Quozen]Squelching sounds of blows struck come from outside.[/sblock]OOG: Ngikhnit, inside the shed, at tail end of Round whatever... 45.
