[sblock=Midias]Peladus' swing of the morning star Mildred fails to dent the wood of the door. Gillin disgustedly snatches back the morning star and delivers a blow himself, but he too fails to break through.

At this moment, the creature appears on the rooftop to Midias' left, launching itself towards him in a roil of reaching tentacles. His hand tightens on the trigger of his crossbow. The bolt flies true, punching right through the creature, but its gelatinous flesh instantly flows back together, leaving no wound.

Then the creature is upon him, stretching out from the roof to engulf him, pressing viscidly against his body, threatening to topple him from the ladder. For a moment, both priest and monster waver in place, but even so, Midias is the stronger, and he forces the thing off him back onto the roof.

OOG: readied crossbow attack 1d20+2=19, 1d8=7 (but no effect). UT3 bullrush attempt Str check 10; Midias opposed Str check 20 (success!). Hereafter, DC 5 Balance check to fight atop a ladder (and no Dex to AC).[/sblock][sblock=Ngikhnit, Pendrake, Quozen]Pendrake heads towards the door. Those outside pound twice more against the doors.

From above comes the thwang of a crossbow bolt being loosed.

Up above, Midias' crossbow suddenly twangs; seconds later, the priest wobbles dangerously atop the ladder, black tentacles thrusting at him, but he keeps his position.[/sblock]OOG: Ngikhnit...

OOG: a crowbar gives a +2 circumstance bonus on appropriate Str checks. Levering with a quarterstaff instead might give a +1 bonus. DC to break open a simple wooden door is 13.

"This is getting us nowhere," says Peladus.

He slips his quarterstaff into a gap in the door frame and tries to jemmy it open.

"Give me a hand," he says to Gillin.

...

"One more time."

...

"Thank you!"

Ngikhnit

Hearing the crossbow noise, Ngikhnit calls out "What's happening out there?" He bounds toward the door, intending to try to open it, by force if necessary (although if it is locked from the inside he'll do it the easy way).

OOG: There is no catch or anything on the inside; the doors open outwards. While I hesitate to perhaps obsolete 'Nock's second Str check, give me some force.
