D&D 5E T1: The Village of Hommlet (IC)

Meadowlark curses her own inexperience, and what had been anger at the senior wizard is now turned against herself in self-recrimination. She's too new at this. Nevertheless, she has a purpose. When the noise dies down, she speaks.

"I have put myself forward already, and I am willing to do so again, respected councillors. If no action is to be taken against Filikin until more is learned, and he is safe to stay in his own house until the matter is resolved, then I am willing to go."

Dur'Dan stands and addresses the Council,

"I volunteer to help. It's only right that we explore all the possibilities. I don't see Filiken as the murderin type. Not his own kin anyhow. He was so taken with fear last night I think he was a victim just like his brother, but lucky to be alive. Why he can't remember is beyond me though."

Thadeous

Well, that turned pretty quickly! Thadeous thinks to himself. Seeing his former masters eyes boring into his he stands. Oh, well. I was looking for something to do.

"Master Burne," he clears his throat nervously. "I would be hnoured to render whatever assistance I could to this endeavour. Finding the truth in this matter could save an innocent man."

Taranis adds to the list, "Good sirs, I am Taranis and I would be glad to help in this endeavor. Something noteworthy might occur and I would bear witness to it. It will give a newcomer like me a chance to befriend some natives and prove my usefulness here."

Thain hurries to throw in his name for the investigation. "Aye, a 'vestigation must be done. I'll join ye, of course. Can't let the wicked get away with this!"

The dwarf looks thoughtfully at Elmo, now fully sober, and says darkly, "Please don't tell me ye've wasted good ale in yer attempts to fool us. Now that would've been heresy!"

"I'll come too."

The voice was quiet, but it carried surprisingly well, coming from behind the onlookers as a young woman pushed her way forward.

"I'm Kes," she said, giving Burne a respectful nod. "Couldn't help overhearing what was going on. I'd like to help."

OOC: Herobizkit, Nergal Pendragon, and Anthony Terry, your characters are officially written out as of this point. Thanks for playing and I hope to see you in the next chapter if you are still interested in playing later on.

Burne nods to the volunteers, "Very well then. You will go the moathouse and dig up any connections between the bandits and the trading post that you can. If the murderer has fled to the moathouse, try to bring back alive if possible, dead if necessary."

Kenter Nevets bangs his gavel again, "Well, we are adjourned then. Elmo, please escort Filliken back to his home and see to it that he's taken care of."

Elmo acknowledges, "The widow Mathilde's kinda sweet on 'im, I'm sure she wouldn't mind looking in on him." Elmo replies to Thain as he is helping Filliken to his feet, "Of course not. Everyone just assumes my cup was always full because Ostler kept filling it up. Nobody thought I wasn't drinking it." He winks at the dwarf, "Playing at being drunk is easier than it looks."

Once most of the gathering has departed, Burne calls the volunteers up to converse with them privately, "Normally, I'd suggest you acquire some supplies before departing, but as the proprietors of the trading post are under suspicion and likely to be arrested today, that won't be possible. Brother Smyth, the blacksmith, can supply you with weapons and armor if you have need of them and Ostler can provide rations. Is there anything else you might need?"

"I hope this wouldn't take too long. I'm ready to head out right away," says Meadowlark, relieved that the council took her request about Filliken seriously and without question. "There is something larger at work."

Thain Thunderthump

"Hrmphf. I'm still not convinced that playin' drunk is a good thing, but I'm glad to be hearin' ye've not spilled any good ale," replies Thain to Elmo. The dwarf is obviously not entirely certain if he should be relieved, amused or angry about being tricked.

"Still, it's for a good cause, I s'ppose. Let's get going, then. I've got me stuff right here," Thain says while pointing to the pack on his back and the hammer and shield in his hands. A grin appears on his cheerful face. "Although I could use a pint for the road."
