D&D 5E T1: The Village of Hommlet (OOC)

After reading 2-3 of your synopsis of potential games I've got to try and play in one of them and Temple is a personal fav of mine I would love to see your take on it and appluad your idea about expanding the setting around Homlett, as without allot of research and even with running it cannon kind of gets in the way of its self.

If there is still room I would love to throw a Halfing Ranger from the Kron Hills (do they exsist in your homlett?) who has travelled to homllett acting on rumours circulating around the settlement he grew up in that his father was really a human and fought at the battles of Emery Meadows.

Having nothing much to live for in town, having grown up a famlyless urchin, Scrutty Sharpeye as headed to homlett hoping to discover his past so that he can write his future.

Kiraya I'm pretty much finished with my character. Just a few questions for you. I've gone with the Soldier background as it's the closest I could get to my original idea. So now I need to figure out which army Dur'dan serves in. Also when picking fighting styles I'm considering the duelist one which states I receive a bonus if I have only one weapon equipped. Do you consider a shield a weapon or no?

Regarding the shield, if you're going Captain America with your fighting style, I'd be willing to let it work that way, sure. Regarding the armies at the Battle of Emridy Meadows... Let's see here...

Elven archers
Dwarven Heavy Infantry
Human Foot Soldiers, Cavalry, and officers, and field support all under the command of Prince Thrommel (who disappeared during the battle and was presumed slain)
Various individual warriors, mages, and heroes. It is rumored, but not confirmed, that the Circle of Eight itself made an appearance at the end of the battle.

The bulk of the armies went home or disbanded. A small garrison remains in Hommlet, semi-retired, serving as the local militia.

So hey, I'm looking over what we have so far. Apologies if I've missed anyone.

TWO FIGHTERS
dwarf fighter (Rubberneck)
hling ranger (HTH or ranged? -- Anthony)

TWO CLERICS
h-elf cleric (Herokibitz)
dwarf cleric (Justincase)

TWO ARCANE CASTERS
h-elf sorc (Nergal)
human wiz (Skarsgard)

TWO OTHERS
h-elf bard (Sithramir)
human monk (Shayuri)

Now if I carry over and tweak my gnome fighter, that's another front-liner, but Lillily was not a tank by any standard, and (as I've discovered) some people find gnomes annoying.

I'm perfectly happy to play something else -- a warlock would give us ranged firepower; a rogue or a ranged fighter/rogue (if the ranger were going hand-to-hand) also possible; a paladin would be awesome if we ever continue to level.

So there's four possibilities, and I'm happy to build something if anyone feels we are deficient somewhere.

First of these possibilities to get three votes, and I'll go with that!

Some rogue-ish skill would not be amiss in this adventure and, later on in the Temple of Elemental Evil, if we get that far, it will be almost vital (almost...you could get by without it, but some things will be more difficult).

I think a rogue would be great. THadeous has great PP and PI but no ability to deal with locks/traps etc. So Kobold-Stew if you don't feel like playing a rogue, I can tweak Thadeous a bit to at least have some ability at it.

I was planning on ranged, but sling. If any one really objects to the idea of a sling just you wait and see *Evil laugh and fading background music* And as much as my halfing will be a ranger, e.g in love with animals and uncomfortable inside he will certainly not be against the idea of thievery, so if no one else wants to pick up the mantle let me know and im sure my high dex should have me scouting and opening locks in no time.

Thing the first - let's cut off recruiting here. Expect a Rogues' Gallery thread to pop up on Monday.

Thing the second - Try to have stats ready to rock by the 30th as that's when I'd like to get started.

Thing the third - Point Buy works as follows. You have 27 points to spend with the following costs.

8 - 0
9 - 1
10 - 2
11 - 3
12 - 4
12 - 5
14 - 7
15 - 9

15 is the max with point buy, though racial adjustments (and, potentially a feat, if you pick variant human as a race) can raise them further.
