Taking bets on the launch of DDI

Geez, guys. Look, I think it's going to tank myself, but do I have to start slapping people in the face with a fish before you loosen up and get the joke? Pick a day and go find some internet hilarity.

But I can't find any humor on the internet. Dang. I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

I'm betting that the character sheet generator will be the only element left that will launch before everything gets canned. However, it will only ever support the PHB options, and none of the additional books. Sometime around Dec, the 3d based elements will get canned, and WotC will just offer a subscription to Dungeon and Dragon.

How about 14 August 2008...they have to have something to roll out at GenCon... last year it was the 4e announcement, this year with the death of Gleemax, they will have to have something to tout.

That being said, my prediction is that it will be a limited release of the full suite (a bit of crack to get you hooked) that is free to the public. They will claim that with the release of the PHB2 (May 2009) the full functionality and pay service will be up but that the system will contain many flaws and will be shelved by December 2010.

In its entirety, minus the things that have officially been canned already? Never.

cheers

I missed any announcements of what has been canned. Do you have a link to that?

As to the OP, I am hoping they do something by Oct. 3. No good picture to link, though.

I don't have links, and I'll admit I haven't paid very close attention because I never had any hope for the thing to begin with, but off the top of my head there's two things. They made a big deal out of the free (or cheap) digital versions of any book you purchase, along with other goodies. And early on, there was also talk about purchasing individual dragon or dungeon articles and now it's going to be an all or nothing package deal.

If it is ever finished, I'd expect other cuts to be made in the process. That all sounds pretty negative, but thanks to the mess that the DDI is in, I am now getting free dragon and dungeon magazines (which while nifty as free content, I wouldn't have bought, with the exception of maybe two articles if I could get them individually). So I've already gotten more out of it than I ever hoped :).

cheers

I would predict GenCon '09 it will be released as a subscription and it will last less than a year before it is pulled due to lack of subscribers.
