Relieved that the others did not mind him joining them, Merlis seated himself and listened as Kirin spoke of riding dogs and then quickly to the nature of evil and the pursuit of adventure.

~Her thoughts move with a zephyr's speed and grace...truly she must be seasoned in her travels...~

"I wish I could add to the topic of evil and its sources, but truthfully, my clan have had very few "bad apples" to fall from our tree. In my studies with the elders, I researched the existance of devils and demons, but in truth, my knowledge is just research with no field experience. However, it is my hope that I may one day have the ability to help deal with such creatures, and others of similar dark souls. In fact, I have chosen to study protection over all other spells. Some consider it a weak field of magic, but I assure you that nothing could be further from the truth."

Preparing to take in a deep breath and continue his explanation on abjuration magic, Merlis looks back at his two new companions and decided that less was more for the moment.

"Yes, well, enough of that. How long have you two been staying here at the Red Dragon? In my travels here I was told that if there was adventure to be found, here was the first step in the journey."

Not too subtly, Liatra leans over to listen to what the short folk are talking about. Her squirrel darts around, excavating a nut from a badly-stitched pocket.

"I just got back last night, and my dog's new owner came in a few hours before you." Kirin says, adding with a smile "and I'm the last who would call protection magics weak, its actually one of the focuses of my own small abilities, though from a more personal direction."

Noticing Liatra, the gnomish woman smiles and says "Please, sister, feel free to bring over one of the larger chairs if you would like to sit with us. I for one am glad of any good company, though you should keep your little friend up at shoulder level so as not to tempt my mutt here more than sausage does..."

Liatra pulls a chair over. "Oh danke," she says, twisting her braided hair absent-mindedly. "This my first time in town. I seek too, adven-thure."

With the thought of the chaos that could ensue from the two pets "meeting" each other, Merlis smiles and looks up at the towering Liatra.

"I must commend you on your training skills madam, as there are very few people who could keep such a nervous creature so calm."

Taking a sip of his drink, he continues.

"When not looking for adventure Liatra, what do you do?"

"Do? I used to chop wood, but now I decide I no wanna hurt trees," Liatra says. "Squirrel here tell me all about good things trees are, so I decide to protect rather than chop 'em." She grins, showing yellowed incisors.

Listening as Liatra explained her conversion to a druidic sounding lifestyle, Merlis was relieved that the powerful woman seemed happy with her more tranquil lifestyle.

"I am pleased to hear that your teacher has taught you the beauty of the woods. Among my people, being able to commune with nature and its creatures is a treasured gift."

"Amongst my peoples they prefer to tear it down!" Liatra growls. The squirrel darts around, agitated by the half-orc's sudden anger.

A half-orc wearing tattered gray loose clothing enters the inn. He eyes everyone present suspiciously for a moment, but then walks further inside and sits down next to a free table. He orders a cup of tea and seems to be listening closely, what's been said in tables around him.
