Kirin looks at the young man intently gor a moment, but when she speaks seems merely acedemic. "I tend to make those judgements based more on the motivations and circumstances than number and species, myself.... I was taught to value all sentients, so I try to avoid killing, but if your life or others are at stake, it can be the lesser of evils."

(ooc: yeah, pretty funny. Kahuna, are you going to be running anything soon?)
well, you can't have a PC in your own games, so anything I come up with now has to have an excuse for Kirin not to go along... which can get fairly contrived. :o I do have something percolating if I can get a new location approved.

(ooc: I will be starting a followup adventure soon which has space to fit in some new PCs. It involves traveling, teamwork, some random encounters and a slew of undead. The currently involved PC is 3rd level, plus there will be some cannon fodder npcs running around. Team players only, please. I'll place the hook here as soon as I get approval.)

Artax, bored human Ranger 1

(OOC: that's what I'm here for. I'm interested in seeing how the dynamic of a lvl3 and several lvl 1 characters will work out. I've always played in games with a level gap of one or less. How many Pcs can you take?)

As the conversation starts to die down once again, Artax gets restless and returns to his target practice.

(Let's see, 30' range, Target Board is small AC 6, inner circle tiny AC 7, bulls-eye diminutive AC 9)

Attack roll:
[dice] + 4 (ranged attack bonus) - 6 (range penalty)

hits AC 10, for a bulls-eye.

"Bull's-eye! let's hope I prove as accurate if my skills are needed for more serious problems."

(OOC: somewhat unfamilliar with the rolling system, trying it out.)

(OOC: Undead? Eusebius is right in there! And, particularly when playing out of one's league, team is the only way to go! ;) )

"So we have someone to battle up close ..."

"Actually, Kirin, while I can hold my own in a fight, I regret to say that I cannot replace a fighter's capacity to act as a shield to her companions. The key to my style is not to be where my opponent's weapon is! Mea culpa. I am better fighting in concert with someone else."

"Now, Dameon, about these cards ..."

Profession (card player): untrained +3 (WIS bonus)
[dice]

"Ah well, never mind!"

A young man enters the Red dragon, travel stained and weary. He goes directly to the Joe and places a small sack on the bar. “Messages for and care of the Red Dragon, one urgent sir,” he says politely, “And something to wash down the dust of the road would be a boon.”

Joe serves him absently with one hand as he spills out the contents of the sack with the other. Most of the scrolls and sealed packages he either stacks on the bar or places under it, but when he gets to one he calls over a waitress and points to the table where the small group is conversing and learning cards. She brings it over and says politely “Journeyer Kirin?”

The gnome thanks her and unseals the folded missive, smiling a little as a small piece of jerky falls out. “Someone back home remembers you fondly, Cirus” she says, tossing the treat to the big dog. Her smile fades as she reads the message, and when she is done she puts it in her pocket and looks up at her companions at the table. “Well, it’s not from a rich man, and there’s no specific guarantee of money, but we may have a chance to be heroes…. The hospice where I trained has sent word that they are concerned by an attack by undead they have learned about. All the details aren’t in yet, but they want me to come back with any aid I can bring so we can equip and head out as soon as they have a clear picture of what’s happening.”

(ooc: this is the hook to the Fort Knocks adventure, which I will start a thread for soon. You'll meet the current chaacter and npcs at the hospice.)

Bartholemu "lynx" Holland, level 1 rogue

Lynx bellows a laugh at Artax's throw, "Ah! Impressive!"

Bartholemu scracthes his chin as Kirin rellays the details of the letter. Making no immediate response he continues to play cards.

Profession (Card Player) ranks4 + wisdom1 = +5 [dice]

Without responding to the outcome of the game, Lynx turns to Kirin, "Where is this Hospice?"

"About a day's hard ride to the north. Well, hard riding for a lazy riding mutt at least." Kirin is already rechecking her pack and readying Cirus's harness. "I'm sorry to say we don't play much cards there, and I don't know if you can infiltrate the undead, but if you would like to help for the sake of helping, I'd be glad to have you."

(ooc: Dexerion -
I usually prefer not to DM evil characters. I'm not going to ban Lynx from the adventure, but I don't want to metagame his acceptance by the other characters and major npcs either. And I don't want you to feel picked on for playing your character. I'd recomend that you don't jump on this adventure just to do something with your PC, esp as it looks like a couple of other adventures are winding down and there should be new opertunities soon. If you think this is something Lynx would really want to do and you could enjoy, I leave it up to you.

Bartholemu "lynx" Holland, level 1 rogue

(OOC- Kahuna: You are right. This is not the type of adventure lynx would indulge in. He is just going to stay in the tavern. However, I would really like to play in one of your adventures. I would like to roll another character, *i only have lynx,* and meet you going out the door. Is that possible?)
