"Tell us what we must do in order to free you from your servitude and it shall be done if it is within our power. This one proclaims it."

Ironwolf blinks at this offer, a bit embarrassed not to have proposed it first. Then again, perhaps the offer is premature. He takes a better look at the collar, to see how long this "slavery" is to last. If it has a defined end, it would be more accurately called indenture than slavery. Decades, though... for anything short of rape or murder, that seems extreme.

"How did you become collared, if I may ask? Was it through some debt or crime, or possibly the condition of an aprenticeship? Do you consider yourself a victim, or is your labor justly owed?"

OOC: Patlin, it seems like it only lasts 5 more years, but she must have been a slave for decades (assuming as Zaeryl does that she has been a slave for life because she talks about her forebears being slaves) because she is a half elf and has blossomed into a woman

Petra looks quite embarrassed at the turn the conversation has taken and says quickly, "I assure you, my servitude was an economic decision made freely. I, well, I wanted my younger sister to attend a mage academy, as she had some raw talent and very little discipline, and I would have had to work many years to build up enough money for the entrance fees, by which time she probably would have burned down our mother's house.... er, in any case, I indentured myself for a course of 10 years. I have the right to buy my freedom sooner if I so chose, and I'm sure my father would help me come up with the money if I wanted to do that."

She chews one of her braids absently as she reevaluates what the group needs to be informed of. "Slaves in Earling come from either voluntary indenturing, punishment for a crime, prisoners of war or rarely imported slaves. We have a set of rights, including the right to buy our freedom, and protection from abuses. Its been that way for almost a century, since the elf lord took over from the old ruling family. I should tell you now, by tradition, only slaves fight in the Arena. I've set up a contract for those who wish to take the job to indenture themselves for the price of 1000 gold each. If you find and stop the people responsible for the killings, you will be able to buy your freedom for one copper piece. Or you may repurchase yourselves at any time for the 1000 gold."

"Wait, so we are to become slaves? And if this money we are given is stolen--say perhaps by agents of our new 'master' or others--then we will become so indefinitely?"

"So we get a thousand gold up front, and our freedom hangs in the balance?" Ironwolf ponders this. It would be a huge risk, but with a thousand in gold he could get some real armor.

(ooc: moreso than the lightness of BAB, I'm a little concerned that I think only one of the volunteers has a positive charisma! :\ not looking to be the crowd favorites here....)

(OOC: Well Lasair has really great Diplomacy and 14 Charisma, and it'll double next level, but she would die in the fights :( Besides, Charisma is just a measure of force of personality and appearance, but the mysterious low-charisma guy might be able to become a crowd favourite...maybe?)

(ooc: well except for those untrained preform gladiatorial checks.... :heh: )

(OOC: Don't worry! My Astral Constructs have 10 Charisma, and they will be the ones making the checks :) :)

EDIT: And if I use Aid Another, that's a +2 we're looking at, quality stuff :D)
