ooc: I'm not overly concerned about "party balance" in any event. A totally over-rated concept. I think a bigger issue at this point is how many adventurers and which ones KB chooses to take. If everyone in the inn wants to go (which seems likely) KB will either need to select a team or accept an army. Also, from the general chat it seems likely that other DMs are lurking about with adventures waiting to pounce, so no one panic if you don't get in the first one. :)

OOC: ::Shrugs:: The last time that I saw a group that didn't care about party balance, they were TPKed twice in the same night. Their third group was balanced.

"He would like a small number of young fighters to enter the ring as his new crop of gladiators and hopefully draw out and defeat the agents working against him."

"Does this arena of yours involve killing competitors for no other reason than that they are on the other side? Intelligent beings?" Ironwolf asks, distaste evident. He will decline the job if it appears to require indiscriminate carnage.

ooc: This seems at odds with the 'no evil' requirement...

ooc: Yeah, if you don't cover all the bases you have to be darn good to survive... Groups I'm in seem to pull it off though. ;) There are times when it can be quite entertaining to have five fighters with no healing support trying desperately to recover enough hp to survive the next battle, but it is hard.

OOC: Aye, the first group was killed immediately and the second, which started at level 3, lost to 4 first level goblin fighters after retreating from the same goblins the first time and coming back fully rested and with knowledge of how the goblins would fight.

OOC: I didn't realize everyone wanted to go -- I never saw anything from the casters (except Sunny) that specified they were talking to the half-elven girl. I'll be the first to step down.

"Those who guide me have made it known that I can find some of your gold in your employ. We have need of much of your gold...yes...much. We accept any offer of employ that you may have."

[OOC: But I will step down if you like Jdvn1, as you probably fit this adventure better than I]

OOC: Guess I missed it is all. I don't check this thread as often as I should, in order to keep up with all the posts. I didn't want to just jump in the first adventure that came along anyway, and I'd prefer one where I could use my bow and be more of a back-up fighter anyway. That more than likely won't happen any time soon, but I'd at least like an adventure where I could use my bow more.

"oh my!" she almosts laughs, then realizes Ironwolf is quite serious. "I'm sorry, the facts of the 'Pits' are well known in Earling, its not the sort of thing you think to explain. In my father's time you would have been quite right, but then in my father's time, this," she touches the odd collar, "would not have a date on it and no slave would be trusted to travel this far from home and not try to escape. The fights are quite dangerous, well except for bloodless sport days of course, and occasionally there is a death if the losers are not attended to in time, but the point is to win, not to kill. Well, to entertain and to win. Thats why the two deaths in the arena had me suspicious even before Fast Fanter was killed in the barracks. I assure you, giving mercy is more than acceptable, its expected these days. Good gladiators are too expensive to lose in one fight, even aside from the Rights of Slaves."

She nods at Anton. "My appologies, my name is Petra."

*This revelation gives new meaning to the term 'Master' that she had used before. With a light snarl, Zaeryl states:*

"No woman should be forced to serve as property as you do, slaves to the whims of a puppetmaster, not even if it is for only several decades--that is far too long. Tell us what we must do in order to free you from your servitude and it shall be done if it is within our power. This one proclaims it."
