Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

**close the book.**

Morvannon blinked in surprise, nearly dropping his notebook into his stew. **I hate it when you do that.**

**uncare. observe around you.**

He glanced casually about. **What am I supposed to be seeing?**

**fool youngling. man and dwarf. smells of magic. and money.**

**The dwarf smells of more than that. And what is it with you and money?**

**you wish to keep eating, yes?**

Rolling his eyes, Morvannon focused his ears on the pair.

Just as everyone had their attention on the stranger, Ashurn moved swift and quietly, sneaking up to the bar just right behind both Magnus and the stranger, "Hey there gentleman, what are you both whispering about? If its about adventure and coins, don't leave me out of the loop." With a smile on his face, "And hope I didn't scare you, stranger. My name's Ashurn and a rogue by trade. But don't worry about me pilfering your coin pouch, gave up the five fingered discount trade a long time ago." and ends his introduction with a bow.

Dont waste your time with this filthy dwarf. Are you in need of some sort of assistance or have ye merely come to disturb a veterans ale?
"Assistance?? What?!? I mean, yes, of course. Assistance. Quite right. Excuse me, but did you say "veteran"? Can I take that to mean you've been upon other campaigns?"

"Hey there gentleman, what are you both whispering about? If its about adventure and coins, don't leave me out of the loop... and hope I didn't scare you, stranger. My name's Ashurn and a rogue by trade. But don't worry about me pilfering your coin pouch, gave up the five fingered discount trade a long time ago."
Reggie turns with a start at Ashurn's "introduction"... "Errr, scare me? Uhhh... no. Scared? ...no ...no not at all. Everything's fine, Ashurn, did you say, and an honest rogue to boot. My word, an honest rogue... indeed. My word..."

The sudden spike of attention seems to have Reggie a little greenish... the hesitation & doubt is written quite plainly upon his face.

"Honest? No, not really. I just don't steal. But there are other means of getting things you want when others aren't willing to part with it, if you get what I mean." says Ash ending with a sly grin on his face.

[sblock=Insight & Perception roll to against Reggie to check if Ashurn can discern any discomfort or hiding any things from the crowd in the tavern.]Insight 22 & Perception 28[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Wow, the tavern sure is quiet. Bet Ash could hear a pin drop if one does drop. :p[/sblock]

The bartender has been watching this little "drama" unfold... at first, amused with Reggie's discomfort, and having a chuckle at the wealthy man's awkwardness... now, however, he seems to be getting annoyed that things are dragging on like they are... "Listen here, Fancy-Pants, ye cann'a walk in here, and not introduce yerself or yer bizness. Ye asked if there were adventurers about, an' here they be... if its privacy ye be needin', I got a room in back you can rent for 5 gold an hour." He slams his meaty palm down on the bartop to emphasize his point, "Now, state yer bizness, or let these folk get back to their drink an' earnin' coin."

"My good man, relax. He's just nervous, guess he just ain't used to us rough folks yet. Here, get this gentleman the best ale you've got!" Giving Reggie a friendly smile while giving him a pat on his back.

Having for the moment seeingly forgotten about the ring Magnus traced a spiraling pattern on the rough table top with one blunt finger.

Hehehe.

Around and around we go, circling ever closer to the answer...

Still the dirty dwarf seemed to be paying more attention to Reggie's hand than the richly dressed man himself.

[sblock=SeaPainter]

Did Reggie have any reaction to the inquiry about the ring?

Tristan lingers back, having no particular interest in crowding the man. He watches with some amusement however, as the other patrons crowd around the newcomer like sharks on a trail of blood. The barman's comments catch his interest, and he considers Reggie a little more closely.

"Were you looking for 'adventurers', or just. . . curious?"

[sblock=Ash]Sorry I missed your Insight & Perception checks yesterday:erm:...

Reggie's discomfort is obvious... but Ash senses that it has to do with the task before him, and not with the brash manners of the adventurers surrounding him. It seems that he is reluctant to have anyone know anything about him (and his business), but he is torn by his need for assistance.[/sblock]
[sblock=Oni]Reggie's attentions have been taken overtaken by the newcomers, so he didn't have a discernable reaction to your question. However, he is less conscious of concealing his ring, and you have a better chance to study it... please make another Arcana check[/sblock]

"Yes... yes. You are quite right, I have been wasting time. Wasting time, yours and... well, I suppose there is no more time to waste." He pauses to consider (or possibly to muster the intestinal fortitude to speak) his next statement, "It is true, I am in need of skilled adventurers to find and recover something that was stolen from me..."

Ashurn suddenly tense up and straighten as he hears a shrill whistle from outside the tavern.

[sblock=Nature Check 5]You know that the whistle belongs to a brown pewee bird.[/sblock]
[sblock=Nature Check 10]And you know that the bird isn't a native of Daunton too...[/sblock]

"Alright, guess my break's over. Got to go now, guess my boss is calling." Ashurn moves towards the exit of the tavern and turns around just before he reaches it, "Ah, Bartender here's some coins. I believe it should be enough. Here's a round of ale for everyone in the tavern, all on me." Leaving a small stack of coins on the bar table. With the same exaggerating motion of entrance, Ashurn did a bow and left the tavern.

[sblock=To SeaPainter]Sorry for the exit, I think I might be getting into an ongoing adventure, so I reckon it might be best of me to announce my leave earlier rather than later. Though Ashurn will come back to the Tavern is the plan didn't go through. So, cheers. :blush:[/sblock]
