"Not a song but a melody, sometimes the right tune can deliver more about such a tragic event than mere words."

"Too bad. The most devastating tragedy of the last war should be reiterated in song and verse over and over. When we forget the mistakes of the past, we tend to repeat them. And maybe, if the story is told often enough, some adventurers or an army might one day right that wrong."

He has been dead many years, obviously your information is out of date. Mythra says with a smirk. You humans never trained your mages properly.

Flashes of arcane power and strewn tower rubble and bodies does not lead to a creature that one can study in any detail. My brief glimpse was a creature that was pulsating with immense power. I did much research in our library to find out more, but I could find nothing in our extensive records. Pity my master was too weak to contain it. But I won't be... he says the last sentence almost to himself.

"So, human mages are not trained properly, but those trained under one who summoned a creature beyond his proficiency are. Hmmm, an interesting philosophy."

"Maybe we can work together. If you would compose the text, I surely find the right melody."

"Perhaps it wasn't the lack of skill by the summoner, but hubris that lets him omit the safety measures."

Varis answers Gry

"Nah. I have no talent at verse. Would that I could." Grys laments.

"Perhaps it wasn't the lack of skill by the summoner, but hubris that lets him omit the safety measures."

"Yes, yes, precisely. Hubris gets us all. Every single one of us." Grys says passionately, the most passionate that Varis has yet seen.

"That is the real foe. That is the demon that steals our dreams and clouds our eyes. Many people think that real demons are the monsters that they fight in the wastes, but they are mistaken. Listen to the words of those around you and you will see. You are most wise friend."

Nyar rubs his shoulder, tender from his friends boisterous greeting.

"Honestly, it is good to be seen Dalvach. I fear I've been spending too much time away in dusty libraries to be good for one's health."

"Goodness Dalvach, did you request all these heroes meet here today?"

"Only the ones who are worth their burden, old friend."

"My name is Daegaul. It's good to meet you Nyar, the pleasure is mine."

Nyar happily returns the profered handshake. He is momentarily overcome with the potent psionic power emitting from Daegaul. He finds himself impressed with not only the potency, but also how Daegaul subtely controls it.

He turns to Mythra.

He has been dead many years, obviously your information is out of date. Mythra says with a smirk. You humans never trained your mages properly.

"I did say 'reputed' to be a potent mage", Nyar smiles, ignoring the attempted slight. "That doesn't make it fact."

"I think that Varis and Grys have enlightened us today." Nyar lifts his glass in toast. "We mages our an imperious lot. Often we need to be. But too often it leads us to trouble. A toast to keeping our hubris in check!"

"Yes, a toast. A toast to all here, not just mages. A toast to keeping our hubris and prejudices in check. Who will toast with Nyar and myself, and who will not?" Grys shouts out to the entire tavern as he raises his mug.

Ryda raises her mug slightly, I’ll toast to keeping the mages in check, but life would be boring with out a bit of exuberant hubris. The key there, is to have someone keep you in check. Right Susan? She queries the warforged, with a gentle nudge of her elbow.

Dalvach grumbles again about the rudeness of elves, referring to the way they interrupted his greeting to Baern. He then pulls out his spectacles and places them delicately on the bridge of his nose. "Never make it a day without hearing about keeping egos in check." He sighs heavily, "Easy for those who have none. Harder for those who think they have one. S'ppose I'll toast just for posterity, don't want to come across as rude." Dalvach winks and touches his nose with his forefinger to his friends gathered at the table across the tavern. He then raises his glass in the air and finishes the rest of the tasteless brown liquid in one gulp.

Jarren smiles good-humouredly at the toast, raising his mug gamely. He finds the whole thing a little strange, but he can't really fault Grys's sentiments. He breaks into a grin at Ryda's comments, and takes a hearty swig. "Well said. Balance in all things," he chuckles.
