Update #2: Session 2 went pretty well: much quicker, she was comfortable with her new character, and really likes rolling skill checks (I explained "Take 20" -- her response: "That takes all the fun out of rolling dice!"). A session length of about 2 hours seems to be the limit right now, though -- but that's pretty good for an evening's entertainment.
I'm considering starting a story hour with this, if for no other reason than to help her keep up with what's going on.
