Tell me about Everquest

While 2d6x10 and 20d6 are more or less equivalent, I think EQ spells reach that point before DnD spells. I don't have my books with me though, so maybe I'm completely wrong. Who knows! :heh:

Yep...

Of course, remember, these folks don't get nice utility spells like Fly. It's almost all combat focus/balance.

6th level, (5d10)x2 Cold (Frost Shock), Single Target.

First spells that get the x10 multiplier. (4d6x10) Fire Damage is at 11th spell level.

At 9th, Wizards get Ice Shock (7d10+2)x2 (81 dmg average, single target, versus 84 average for Meteor Swarm on a single target). Ice Shock gets Ref Half save and SR applies.

Is the easier direct comparison I can get. EQ spells don't scale in damage.

Thanks for the info that really helps in making my decisions. Does any of the supplements have a beginning low level adventure in them?

I should have my books in a week or so (one of the problems of free shipping is the delay in getting them).

From what I have read here I may just go ahead and order Al'Kabor's Arcana now and be done with it. Also has anyone used the game screen and how useful is it?

Part of the neat theme (imo) of the EQ books is the existance of Quest blocks that give you more or less an "instant adventure hook" with minimal details associated with it.

Befallen has a low-level-ish floor (4th -> 8th).
Forests of Faydark/Crushbone is another 'low level-ish' Site Based adventure.
Everfrost/Blackburrow is a good site based location for beginning levels (1 to 8 or so).

One thing to remember with EQ style 'locations', is that it's quite likly that players will need to 'return' to the location later to deal with it once they get to a transition area (Befallen explains this best).

I'd also suggest looking at the Downloads page at www.eqrpg.com . Some fan-written freebies available there.

Well my books arrived today. So i am sure once I get into them I will have some basic d20 questions and some specific EQ ones. So far so good. I like the point based designing of the PC instead of just roll and hope for the best.
The only modification I may make is that if you lower your attribute below 8 you get a 1/2 point per point dropped.
