As others have already said, don't be too quick to discount GenCon because of the family. Last year my wife and 8 month old went. They had a great time. My son got to meet his first Stormtroopers and Darth Maul actually held him for a picture! While a friend and I gamed they hit the mall and enjoyed the city a little. (we were only there for one day last year).
This year they have plans to hit a large number of the downtown attractions - the zoo, the canal walkway, etc, etc. So it will be a good time for all, at least in out case.
For that matter when the time draws closer there could be an EnWorld family meetup where the non-gamers head to the zoo and hang out, letting the kids play together.

Kids to GENCON? Hadn't thought of that...but chances of convincing my non-gaming wife of traipsing off to Indianapolis with me for 4 days (even with Spa and baby-sitter bribes) are slim to none (especially with a what will then be 8-month old). Maybe next year...

Quit apologizin' ya big lug! After all, I'm the one who is going to be gloating about getting to go to GenCon!
Plus maybe I'll have some helpful tips to pass on to you next year since I'll be a "veteran" and all.
