Well I have 2 groups,
One, we meet 2 or 3 times a year but have kept this up since college 20 odd years ago, not sure of peoples ages but I reckon I'm the oldest at 43.
4 out of the 5 are in IT, I develope and the others admin and one is in hte public service.
For rpg, we have one campaign going since college, originally in Palladium and ported to 3.0 some time after it came out and then to 3.5 and looks like going to 4th
I have also started Scales of War with this group.
I also DM for my nephews 4 of them ages 10 to 18 and have been running Keep on the Shadowfell. Needless to say those under 18 are still in school and the 18 year old is starting college. While I have ran some 3e stuff for this group the younger memeber tended to loose interest and it was very intermittent. However, we have been pretty regular (usually weekly) since 4e came out and are not nearly finishing KOTS.

Be interesting to see what the range of responses and numbers for this is. How about turning it into a proper poll based on the responses.

DM (me) and two players since 1982; two steady and three occasional players since the early-to-mid nineties.

All male, early thirties to mid-forties. They include two vacuum truck drivers, a town sewer system supervisor, three factory/warehouse workers, a computer programmer, and a computer technical support person.

3.5, with a possible switch to Pathfinder after current campaign is finished (which will be a while).

3.5, transitioning into Pathfinder. 4e throws out the baby with the bathwater IMO, to use an old phrase. Too much changing what didn't need to be changed thematically and mechanically both. Pathfinder's not exactly right in my eyes, either, but it's a hell of a lot closer to it than 4e. (And I'm probably the most 4e-tolerant of my group, truth be told.)

OK, the big mystery and the reason I asked these questions is we are working on a story with a large business focused media outlet.

The journalist is writing about a story about D&D. He would like to profile a group of D&D players who have been playing for a long time and do a “where are they now?” type piece. Ideally, he’d like a group who started playing together years ago and still play together, at least occasionally. However, understanding that people move and groups change, other scenarios would be possible as well.

His goal of the piece is to showcase a group of well-adjusted, family-oriented men and women with successful careers who found that playing D&D enriched their lives and encouraged their social, analytical and creative skills.

We have made a selection and I am waiting to here if the group wants to be the subject of the story.

Thanks to all who replied. It was a very interesting little glimpse into our player base and it was very informative for me.

Cheers :D
