Tell me about your familiars

My Paladin/Sorcerer has a weasel familiar named 'Snaggle'.

Snaggle was often charged up with a spell from a wand of CLW, so that he could rush to aid a seriously wounded PC. This became known as 'being snaggled'. Being snaggled was considered a serious humiliation to the snaggled person, and some PC even wanted to risk dying above being snaggled.

Since then, snaggling has expanded his horizon as a verb used to indicate many kinds of experiences ;)

My first char ever was a Wizard with a raven familiar called Dikeen. My character used to have hour long confersations in Draconic with him, and once when we were riding a camel he started laughing and fell of of the camel. When my character died at the hand/claw of a Roc he went totally berserk and picked one of the Roc's eyes.

One of the PCs is the game I run has a pseudodragon familiar named Muchasi- he plays him in combat, I roleplay him the rest of the time.

Muchasi has a serious obsession with anything shiny- when he is sent to scout his reports back to his master generally begin with him relating the shininess or otherwise of whoever he encountered. He frequently requests gems and the like from treasure, and was nearly delirious with joy the day the party made an ally of a silver dragon who permitted Muchasi to sleep on his hoard. He recently found a 'crown' to wear (one of those circlets which gives him the same AC as his master, I forget the name) and since then everytime the party visits a friend they haven't seen for a while pretty much the first thing the friend will say is 'Yes, Muchasi, your crown is lovely' (pseudodragon having spoken to them telepathically and drawn their attention to his latest acquisition). Muchasi also occasionally borrows his master's spellbook and attempts to cast spells (no success so far, but he's pretty detemrined) , and fully believes he can breathe fire thanks to several dragon's breath spells being cast on him at various points :)

I had a Gnome Wizard with a Raven familiar once. Then he got "Feebleminded", and the rest of the party was slain. Needless to say, the thought of a wizard being let around the forest by his familiar who is now 10 times smarter than he is still a joke at our game table.

Earth Elemental

I have a medium size earth elemental fighter lvl5 as a familiar. Let me explain...

We play core rules Greyhawk, and I used the Improved Familiar feat to get a small earth elemental. Once i reached an appropriate level (9 I think), I got the Leadership feat, and the DM and myself converted the familiar to a familiar/cohort, making it more effective, and creating a storyline for the changes. It is a small group, so the added muscle really helped too.

My wizard is a dwarven illusionist, who has an affinity for the earth, and thus the elemental was weaved nicely into existing storylines when I got him, and a whole series of adventures surrounding the acquisation of it.

Anyway, I think it's very cool to play this character, and the DM does a good job at portraying the elemental. Also, for a wizard, a beefy big rock is a good sidekick for all those pesky melee-types attacking your frail health.
