Tell me about your favorite character of all time.

Character I'm currently playing is frickin' awesome. What started as a one-off became a character with a great degree of emotional depth.

Maru Schbeiker is the single daughter of Walter Schbeiker, a famed ice mage and jeweler. Walter died around Maru's 8th birthday, leaving her his fortune and memoirs. Maru basically lived alone for two years, mastering cantrips and whatnot all to herself. When Miss Schbeiker was about ten years old, the monolithic Church of Azareus decried old Waltar a heretic, and seized his possessions, and Maru went to an orphanage. There she finished out adolesence, picking up a very bitchy, logical demeanor as an emotional defense mechanism covering the kind of weaknesses that such an upbringing gives.

Once she was set up on her own two feet, she took up hunting the walking dead that plagued the lands to the north, working for the very church that denounced her father. The party she adventures with include her only friend, Atvar, a gigantic sakkra (lizardman) clad in steamtech armor, Marukawa Pang, a Knight of the Order of the Calipers of Saint Acura (The Caliper Knights are the inquisitors of the church of Azareus), and Yoshimi, a Cleric of the Order of the Sunfire of Saint Pontiac.

[the Azarean church is highly compartmentalized]

Callum McLeish - a kilt-clad greatsword wielding psycopathic (barbarian) cleric. Risked death on a weekly basis by raging and charging into lethally dangerous situations. Frequently rescued the entire party by doing so. My favourite was 2nd level, charging a ghast and 2 ghouls which had paralysed the entire rest of the party. I was practically dead at the time. Very very messy. Although not as bad as the "Ach stuff it" moment when I got fed up waiting for the rest of the party to cross the city to help me, and I just kicked the door in and attacked the entire evil cult solo. Or cast Sanctuary on myself and allowed an entire swarm of 100+ stirges to attack me whilst the party mages targetted me with 3 fireballs...

Or possibly the Reverend Jedediah Parrish. The only character ever to cause me to take a bible to an RPG group to quote from whilst whoppin' the enemies...

A posthumous mention for the character in Deadlands who took out the entire party by firing an unstable home-made autocannon from the hip whilst carrying a bucket of unstable plastic explosive and a torch in the other hand... (Yay for playing insane characters!)

I have only ever been a DM, so my favorite characters are all NPCs.

Stephano Ramosa started as a scrawny rogue companion, but then developed sorcerous lightning powers as the game went on. Then he was unwittingly posssessed by the undead spirit of a powerful Ogre Mage and tried to kill the party. In an attempt to excorsize him, Stephano was temporarily sucked into the Abyss and came back having aged 10 years. By the end of the campaign, Stephano helped rescue one of the main PCs by breaking into a Half-Dragon Citidel, sneak attacking half the guards in the place, acrobatically avoiding multiple breath weapons, and then decimating a Grand Hall full of yard trash with a Lightning Deluge.
Dang, I wish I could play Stephano as a PC.

My other favorite "character" should really be counted as a monster, since it was just for one encounter--but I just loved it! Her name was Wheatblossom, and she was a halfling girl with an embroidered dress and flowers in her hair. She asked the PCs to stay and become a part of their community. When they refused, she mind blasted the fighter with her immense psionic powers and almost killed the whole party.

DnD is so much fun!
