Tell me, have you seen the Eberron CSB?

What do you think of Eberron now that you have taken a better look at it?

Got it yesterday and what I have read is just fantastic. So many game posibilities just jump out at you saying, "USE ME!, No don't use that one USE ME!" It is like inspiration overload. Plus you can't go wrong with a setting that can have parties of psychic warrior, dinosaur riding halfling and a druid that can turn into a bug.

Druids turning into a bug? Details details details!

Not too sure about the dino-riding halflings, though. I'll probably replace them with cannibal halflings instead.

The thread title is a bit misleading - it looks like another "has Eberron appeared in stores near you?" thread.
Yeah, it was late after work when I wrote it and I couldn't get "Tell me brother, have you seen the Yellow Sign?" out of my head. My bad.

I have to say, I was initially turned off by the previews in Dragon and what-not. But I was at B&N the other day looking for some other stuff and saw a copy sitting on the shelf. Figuring it never hurt to steal ideas, I leafed through it. Needless to say, I left $40 poorer with a copy in my bag. ;)

For me, it's one of the few settings I've felt comfortable in right from the start. I started playing D&D after 3rd edition came out, and I've always had a problem that with any setting I tried I felt like I didn't get the whole picture because I hadn't read the 2nd edition sources. Eberron is different. Having read the book, I actually feel like I understand what's going on, and that I could make adventures in the world without feeling like I was infringing on what was supposed to be happening.

I love both the writing style and the art. I have to say, this was the first roleplaying book that I was able to sit down and read straight through. I couldn't even do that with the core books. But the writing in Eberron is so vivid that not only could I do so, I enjoyed it!!

So here I am, an Eberron convert, after saying for months beforehand how bad it sounded. Guess it goes to show how little one should rely on the preview in Dragon.

In the end, I'm sure that you knew all this stuff, Stone Dog, being one of the biggest supportters, evanglists, guy-who-talks-a-heck-of-alot-about-it-and-seems-to-know-everything of this setting, but what the heck. Reccently, I've just felt the need to splat out all my thoughts on my latest purchases on the internet for some reason.
You know that after tomorrow I will be seriously lacking in my sleep while I pour over this thing to a degree that borders just wouldn't allow. ;)

I've never been this pumped about a setting before and Eldritch Machines, Quori Crystaline Shards, elemental bound items and airships are just making me a very happy dog indeed.

Got mine yesterday

and have only looked at it for a hour or so, but it looks great! Love the fact that many of the stylistic decisions are explained, and the whole section on hwo an Ebberon campaign should "feel" is great too. Haven't gotten into the crunchy bits yet, but tonight has been reserved.

Nice job so far though.

Eberron definitely won't appeal to everyone; it's more Rennaisance than Middle Ages, it features very widespread (low-level) magic, and some people just can't stand to see nomadic halflings or not-necessarily-evil orcs. Some people will find the level of detail overwhelming. Others will just feel that it's not old-school enough for them.

But I expect those people to be th exception. In fact, I think Eberron has a very old-school sense of fun. The designers have created a setting where being an "adventurer" has a real place in the world, and I can't remember the last time I've been so excited to explore some ancient ruins. I expect a lot of people who are on the fence to eventually give Eberron a try and end up having a blast.

The book is absolutely chock-full, jam-packed with details. The backstory and region descriptions are filled with adventure hooks (both explicit and woven into the text itself). The sample characters were a great way to demonstrate the tone of the setting. There's so much there, but there's also a sense that this is only the tip of the iceberg.

I really didn't get Eberron the first time I read about it, because it's simply not the kind of setting that a few marketing buzzwords can easily capture. But the more I learned, the more excited I was for it. The final straw was reading Keith Baker's posts as Hellcow on these forums and at the WotC boards. As most of you know, Keith created Eberron and was a big part of the design team. Between his enthusiasm for the setting, the level of detail he had in his head about it, and the commitment he showed to it, I had no doubt that it would rock.

And it does. I'm still in the process of reading the book (it's huge!), but so far I have been uniformly impressed. This book met my very high expectations. If you haven't picked it up yet, check it out when it hits FLGSs tomorrow!

Druids turning into a bug? Details details details!

I believe that one of the Druid Order feats (Child of Winter?) lets you change into Vermin and adds Vermin to the Summon Natures Ally list. Plus you can affect Vermin with spells that normally target just animals. Say it with me everyone, Animal Growthed Monstrous Scorpions!
