Templates that change player size

Half-minotaur would have been fine if it simply increased your size without the stat adjustments, but for some inexplicable reason, the author just had to add a small footnote stating that the stat bonuses for increasing in size did in fact apply.

As it is, you are getting +12str for just +1LA...:confused:

Half-ogre has been revised to +2 in races of destiny, and is now a base race, so no more confusion there. :)

Yeah, Half-Minotaur is +12 str, -2 dex, +6 con, +4 natural armor, a bonus feat, Scent special ability, a natural weapon +5' reach, -1 AC, -1 Attack all for +1 LA.

Flavor seems kinda cool, but man is it a heck of a lot better than playing an ACTUAL minotaur.
 

Read the templates 1/2 Ogre and 1/2 Minatuar the template does say it increases by MM way.
Look just use Crystal Keep: Crystal Keep - D&D and d20 System

1/2 Minotuar page 11. "With all the appropriate bonuses from size change" exact text.
1/2 Ogre same deal.
They both say they are in addition to bonuses of the template.
OK then. That applies to those two templates, because they explicitly say so.

A size increase template without that text, granting just "+1 size category" or similar, would not grant the ability score bonuses.

This is not complicated.

The really powerful part is when some temporary methods (expansion, enlarge person, giant size, etc) also granted typed bonuses. Since the size chart has unnamed bonuses... they stack. Keep in mind that if you intuitively houserule them as size bonuses then that means they would... overwrite which is even uglier because the (inverse) optimization for this case is much more powerful and counter-intuitive.

No, spells like Expansion and Enlarge person use own changes.
Giant size does use the MM tables rewritten (they pretty much line up).

It doesn't sound like a contradiction. I did mention that those examples had their own bonuses. I simply followed the logic of them stacking with the size table or not. The Wu Jen spell Giant Size is a bit off also (it throws out -2dex, +2nat, +4con)

That's definitely incorrect. Actually the table is only ever used when advancing a monster's HD results in a size increase _except_ if something explicitly refers to the table.
Nope. It mentioned HD as one possible way. "May" is the operative word. The monster advancement of HD is only the most common way of size changes. Just like how size changes are also the most common way of damage die increases. And look at that the tables are right next to each other. Just like there are other ways of increasing a damage die, there are other ways of gaining size, most of which only indirectly (hense they assume the player should already) reference the size table's amounts.
