temple prostitution

G'day

You ought to check Herodotus Histories, the original source for this practice. I believe that it was a religious duty of the worshippers, not solely of the priestesses, to serve thus in the temples at least once before marrying, and I seem to recall that Herodotus says something about prices.

Price vs. performance

In this wonderful country of ours called 'Oz', numerous states have legalized prostitution, or as the Sex Worker Union (yes... a union of prostitutes... I wonder if that's like a gaggle of geese...) would prefer we say, Brothels.

Now... in an effort to be helpful, I'm going to provide a little insight however as much as I would like to be known as a sex-fiend, the fact is is that I've never been, so this is all second hand knowledge. Ironically, I'm betting no-one will believe that...

From what I've been told, the price is set by performance and time. Either a specific act is paid for or a time is alloted, anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour. Some of the more prestigious places, I've heard tell, hire out women for the night. Different agencies have different policies. Some come to your home and are accompanied by a big, beefy, bouncer (there's a term for them but I forget what it's called) who waits outside and listens for screams. Of course, they're trained to discern the difference between screams of pleasure and pain...

Most, however, have their own premises and conduct all business there.

There are some that are quite prestigious and who hire out only the best looking and highest skilled women. Sums of $5,000 a night are not uncommon. In one case, there was a famous rugby player here who fell in love with one of the women and paid $10,000 per day to 'keep' her.

Prices are usually more realistic, however. I've heard that $50 is a standard for a specific 'act' and $200 for a half hour (or hour, I can't remember) is about the average.

Oh, and the predominant background of sex workers in Victoria is, apparently, university student.

Hope this helps.

Huh? Care to explain or is this just one of those off-hand comments that you're allowed to get away with 'cause you're who you are? If it's not meant to be offensive, then I see no reason why it can't be explained...

In Sydney, the first half-hour is $70 at the bottom end, right up to $300 for "ex-Penthouse pets" and "former Russian Supermodels".

Price is based on appearance, not "ability".

And of course, each additional half hour is cheaper than the one preceding it.

"Home delivery" is more expensive than "Eat in" (there is no "Take away" option).

Oh, and the predominant background of sex workers in Victoria is, apparently, university student.

Likewise in Sydney, though the majority of those "students" are actually "International students", "studying" here on "Student Visas".

Most of them, it would seem, are from the Universities of Bangkok, Hong Kong and Manilla.

And it would seem that the majority of local girls spend their hard-earned on heroin.

Nothing like substance addiction to provide an incentive for selling one's body and soul for the pleasure of sexual predators.

Mark's harmless, Fourecks. He's just having fun.

Don't confuse him with teh clique. (Though, IMO, the clique's been inactive here for well over a year.)

The Creative Mountain is a sweet guy doing his bit to lighten the mood - that's all.

Take it easy, Aussie.

This thread is about Temple Prostitution and nothing else.

Thank you :)

You are, of course, correct. I apologize to you, tleilaxu, old friend and will remove myself from further debate on the issue.
