the 2d10 system

le Redoutable

Ich bin El Glouglou :)
first you have a Rank ( from 1 to say 8 )
then, within a given Rank you have Levels ( from .01 to .20 )

so, you roll 2d10 with the following rules :
if d1 and d2 are superior to your .Level then you get a -1 to your Rank
if d1 or d2 are inferior or equal to .Level then you get a +0 to your Rank
if d1 and d2 are inferior or equal to your .Level then you get a +1 to your Rank
if d1 + d2 are inferior or equal to your .Level then you get a +2 to your Rank

I have absolutely no understanding how this is supposed to work or even the design goal. If you are designing a new game systen, it would be best to make it as simple as possible. Not many are interested in complicated math while playing.

yes, it is alternative to the D20 system;
here you have a Rank ( from 1 to 8 ) and within each Rank you have a .Level ( from .01 to .20 ) ( euh it is written at the beginning of the topic )

the idea is : people who share the same Rank say in Fighting can compete with each other;
when there's a difference of one Rank it becomes uneasy to win, but still :
between 5.20 ( always 5+2=7 ) and 7.05 ( 25% of -1 ==> 7-1=6 , 50% of +0 ==> 7+0 = 7 , 15% of +1 ==> 7+1=8 and 10% of +2 ==> 7+2=9 )
the maths say the 5.20 bearer has chances to win the contest ( well, whatever )
:)

... if that could help :
let's examine 7.05
a 25% of -1 gives a -1x25=-25
whatever the +0 it is always 0
a 15% of +1 gives +1x15= +15
a 10% of +2 gives +2x10=+20
so -25+0+15+20+700= 710
( each Rank gives a full 100 points per Rank )

But what is the goal of this? How does it improve a game from d20? As I said, most people don’t want more complicated math if it does not offer something into the game. So you say rank 5 is unlikely to win against rank 7, but still possible, I don’t see how that’s different than someone with proficiency 2 unlikely to win against proficiency 5, but still possible. The only difference is that yours has more complicated math.

there are 4 levels of success, from -1 to +2;
these vary with your .Level
the idea is that, given the same Rank there is approximately the same % of success
now if there's 2 Ranks or more of difference it becomes uneasy to win the contest
I used to say that Jackie Chan was Fighter ( or Monk , or whatever ) Rank 4
often he confronts Bosses who generally are Rank 5
still he wins...
