D&D 4E The 4e Mystery Race is going to be...

I'm wondering about that playtest though, where one of the players were of a race that apparently, in some shape or form, controlled an 'empire' (which some of them perceived as sort off despotic.. But it was perceived as such, entirely on account of the DMs campaign setup, rather than any official material). Which races could feasibly control empire (make warships and so on)?
That's a pretty good description of the gith, actually. And the Astral Plane is now an Astral Sea, so the gith would technically be a seafaring race in 4e.

I hope its Minotaur, Hobgoblin, Orc, Warforged or Goliath as the choice for the mystery race...

unless its something they are going to completely make up... and then a lot of people are going to complain and moan and groan that their other pet race didn't make it.

Me...if I had to put money down on it, I'd go with Hobgoblin.

I'd prefer full-blood Orcs to Half-Orcs. If they're pushing the Orc towards being a standard PC race (The Orc King, set in FR starts doing exactly that), then I find it hard to see Half-Orcs around, as they tend to be a reminder that Orcs like to... well... let's just say that I've never heard of a Half-Orc born of a happy marriage.

I explain the presence of Half Orcs in my current campaign thusly.

While Orcs are ugly, they are legendary for their prowess and virility. All they do is Fight, Bleed, and Breed. Orcs are intimidating not only for their size as well as their strength. They are still violent and ugly and brutal, and do not make appealing long term mates. But among human, and even some elven women, while an Orc may not be Mr Right, they are often Mr Right Now.
